Graduate Research Orientation Day
Orientation Day will be held on Thursday 22 Feb for Graduate Researchers, providing a welcome to all graduate researchers. The day introduces you to the important elements of your graduate research degree, and the comprehensive research training and professional development services available at the University. Build a Community – Graduate Researcher Network event
This event focuses on the different ways you can connect and participate in the University community. We’ll provide an overview of groups, committees and clubs, and discuss opportunities for research students to engage with the broader academic community. Chat with fellow graduate researchers over a delicious lunch and listen to an informative panel of speakers. This event is a collaboration between the University's Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. 12pm-2pm Monday 12 Mar.
The Faculty encourages students who are about to submit, or have recently submitted their thesis to consider applying for a PhD Internship. Stipends are available for the period of the internship and the Faculty offers the Specialist Certificate in Research Practice for Scientists which provides a framework to support the internship and a qualification in recognition of completion. Quantitative Researcher Internship – Machine Learning - Akuna Capital Shanghai
Akuna’s Quantitative Trading and Research team is looking to add Quantitative Research Interns to a team of mathematicians, statisticians and technologists for their 10-week internship at Akunacademy in their Shanghai office. Research Internship – Telstra
Telstra has embarked on a journey where they will be using the customer call information to analyse where they can perform better and improve the customer experience. This is made possible by using technology that converts voice to text and they will be looking to use the text to pinpoint the underlying issues that impact their customers. More information.
Research Internship with the Crowther Centre Brighton Grammar - Developing a School Improvement Tool
The aim of this project is to analyse the key drivers of school (K-12 school) performance and how these drivers are reported back to schools to improve educational outcomes. Candidates must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency. More information.
Research Internship with a Global Mobility Company – Sydney

Nauti-Craft is seeking an experienced researcher capable of developing, conducting and reporting on the human performance benefits available to high speed craft operators when using a Nauti-Craft equipped vessel. More information.
Westpac STEM part-time employment opportunity
Westpac and the Group of Eight Universities (G08) have embarked on a joint venture in developing a program for PhD students with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). The program offers PhD students that are Australian or New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status part-time employment with Westpac Group while completing a PhD. Students will be required to be in Sydney 3 days per week. An information session is taking place on 3pm-4pm Monday 12 Feb in the Doug McDonell (DMD) room 8.03 Parkville Campus.
Diagnostic English Language Assessment
Are you a commencing student in 2018? Have you considered sitting the DELA? The DELA is an assessment tool that helps you prepare for the challenge ahead. The DELA provides a profile of your academic English skills and gives you information about relevant support programs that will both assist with your academic language skills and enhance your chances of academic success. Following completion of the DELA you will have the opportunity to apply for the Graduate Science Language Development Program. This is an 8 week workshop style program that provides a supportive and open environment for academic language development. To participate, register for the DELA, 2hr sessions 16 – 23 Feb 2018.
Teaching Skills for Graduate Researchers
Teaching Skills for Graduate Researchers (TSGR) is specifically designed for currently enrolled graduate researchers at the University of Melbourne who are new to teaching. This program consists of three workshops that introduce the fundamentals of effective teaching for learning in higher education settings. Upon successful completion of the workshops, TSGR participants receive a certificate.
Professional Development Seminars
In 2018 the Melbourne CSHE will offer a new series of professional development seminars for graduate researchers. The seminars will offer practical advice on six key topics of relevance to graduate researchers. Registrations are essential as sessions are limited.

Are you not yet confirmed? Managing Data @Melbourne has been developed for University of Melbourne graduate researchers to support you in building essential data management skills. We recommend that graduate researchers complete this short program prior to confirmation.

PACE Mentoring Program – Applications Open!
The Australian Network on Disability (AND) is offering students the opportunity to be mentored by some of Australia’s best and brightest professionals from a range of industries through the PACE Mentoring program. Anyone over the age of 18 with a disability is eligible to apply for the program. If you’re interested in applying, complete this online application form no later than 28 Feb.
Student Impact – seeking committee members
Student Impact is looking for Committee members to speak to students during Summerfest 2018. Student Impact offers you the chance to get involved in philanthropy and fundraising and make a real difference to the University community. This is a unique opportunity to learn valuable skills in philanthropy and fundraising, project management, marketing and communications, public relations and more.
