News from our Senior and Youth SectionsAfter a much anticipated return to cricket, the rain during May conspired against us forcing multiple postponements and cancellations of matches and training. Now that summer seems to be finally here we hope fixtures can return to some kind of normality. And with that comes the news that following the latest government and ECB updates, spectators are allowed at all grounds and the famous Jordan Hill BBQ at Friday’s youth training has made a return! MEN’S It's fair to say that our senior teams have had a mixed start to their season. There were some close matches for the 1st XI against Banbury and Cumnor which could have gone either way. Leading the way on batting is Captain, Muhammed Ayub and on bowling it's off-spinner George Tait who has scooped up his share of wickets and is currently the leading wicket-taker. The 2nd XI have only had 2 completed matches with one cancellation and one abandonment due to rain. The latter match was heading towards a sure-fire win for OCC before the heavens opened. 97* from Steve Hurt, 52* from Captain, Arthur Muir and 5 wickets in 6 overs from Dylan Swanepoel put the team on the edge of victory. The 3rd and 4th XI's have also been in action and a specially extended bulletin on their first few matches can be found here. Definitely worth a read! WOMEN’S Women’s 1st XI Despite a wet and cold start to the league, the Women's section have played well and the first team made it through to the finals day of the super 8's tournament on June 6th. We have really enjoyed this tournament and are thrilled to see lots of new faces scoring the runs and taking wickets especially in our development side. We're looking forwards to the Home Counties Women's League that starts in July where we'll continue to offer a lot of cricket to all abilities. YOUTH This month we have a feature on our highly successful Girls U13 team here. Fixtures are well underway for all teams from U9 to U19 all of whom have recorded wins with some great individual and team performances against tough opposition. Several of our sides have young players playing up 1 or 2 years and the quality of of our emerging talent is great to see. We have 11 different youth teams (mixed, boys and girls) playing competitive fixtures across the age groups and have seen some impressive performances with both bat and ball by young players playing for senior teams As you may have seen our Friday night training sessions are busier than ever with close to 200 players attending across the evening especially now our budding cricketers have started their All Stars and Dynamos programme. If any senior players can come along to help with coaching, please contact Arthur Muir. Special Announcement for All Stars! We may have a special guest coming to our last session on Friday 16th July so be sure to attend! Summer Camp We are
going to run a summer camp for 5 weeks this summer. The final week of July and the whole of August. We are going through some changes with the booking systems, so it will be online soon. For any information in the meantime please contact Arthur Muir here. PLAY-CRICKET.COM You can see all our fixtures and results on our Play Cricket site - https://oxford.play-cricket.com/home OCC Women vs MCC WomenWe are delighted to announce that the MCC will be visiting Jordan Hill on Friday July 23rd at our Jordan Hill Ground. Women's Big Cricket MonthWomen’s Big Cricket Month is back for a second year, aiming to give more women and girls the opportunity to play, follow or attend cricket in 2021. With exciting new activities at grassroots level, the second year of a brand new professional domestic structure in place, two fascinating England Women series and the launch of The Hundred, this year is shaping up to see more women and girls than ever before say ‘cricket is a game for me’. As part of that, two of our rising stars of Women’s Cricket, Nashwa and Numa Shah, recently produced a video about what it’s like to be a women cricketer and the journey from youth to adult. You can see the video here. As well as that we also have some tips for parents and youth players starting out on their cricketing journey from Rosalyn Porter, Club Safeguarding Officer and Director of Women's Cricket. You can read the tips here. Coach AssistanceThe club is running a short course initially aimed at Women, especially mothers and female carers of youth players on 11th June between 5.45 and 6.45pm at Jordan Hill. The aim is to show parents how to assist a team coach with a pre-match warm-up session - we will cover: putting on kit, managing a fielding warm up and managing a batting warm up. No cricketing skills involved, softballs will be used and we will have much fun. Please do come along, have fun and ask questions. Please email Rosalyn Porter at safeguarding@oxfordcricketclub.com if you’d like to attend. Friday night BBQWe are delighted to have reintroduced the BBQ on Friday nights and to be able to serve drinks. This provision relies on volunteers. We are asking all members to sign up to just one Friday to help feed the masses. One person per family would be fantastic and a 'Cheats Guide' is below. To sign up, please come to the BBQ on Friday and pick a date that works for you. You'll get to meet some new members along the way too. Thank you for supporting Oxford cricket club. The information guide is here. A huge "thank you" to all the volunteers who have got the Friday night BBQ up and running. SafeguardingCOVID guidelines Our guidelines are on our home page (www.oxfordcricketclub.com) along with a link to our NHS test & trace form. All OCC visitors (players & parents) still need to complete this form when they come to Jordan Hill for training or matches. DEFIB Training The club will be running a basic introduction to the use of the defibrillator at Jordan Hill. (Inside Changing Room 2 in the pavilion). This will be on Thursday 17th June at 5pm at Jordan Hill. All members and parents are welcome. We also hope to video the session so we can share online. First Aid Course for Coaches, Captains and Team Managers The club will be running a first-aid course on Monday 16th July at Jordan Hill from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. To sign up for this course please email Rosalyn Porter at safeguarding@oxfordcricketclub.com Learn to be quick, smart and restart a heart UK Coaching has recently launched a free life-saving free digital learning toolkit, which will help you gain the knowledge and confidence to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. We encourage anyone involved in sport and physical activity – including coaches, personal trainers, club organisers, referees, volunteers, parents, participants and spectators – to access this life-saving learning here. Umpires NeededCalling all existing and potential umpires. Our 3rd XI captain is urgently looking for a regular umpire for home and away matches. Please contact Ross Tomkins here. If you’d like to be involved in umpiring there is a free ECB online course here. Please get in touch if you would like more information about being a club umpire. Scorers Needed! All our teams from youth to adult need scorers and so Rosalyn Porter is running an introduction to cricket scoring course soon at Jordan Hill. The course is open to anyone who would like to join and is free! Please contact Rosalyn at safeguarding@oxfordcricketclub.com 2021 Membership & Match FeesMembership All 2021 memberships are on the club website and can be purchased here.
