January 2019 Last Year's Examples are this Year's LeadersThis month, Livable Buckhead awarded one of its local businesses the 2018 Triple Bottom Line Award for exemplary water reuse and conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling projects. Sustainability efforts from the private sector and Livable Buckhead's recognition of environmentally-friendly local businesses highlight the need for successful partnerships between public, private, and non-profit arenas. Business and private sector engagement is essential for cities and counties to meet sustainability goals in 2019 and beyond. The Atlanta Regional Commission's Sustainable Connections Internship Program helped place two area college students in part-time internships with Livable Buckhead for the 2018-2019 academic year. These interns have worked on the Buckhead Sustainability Action Plan and Livable Buckhead's commercial recycling program. Green Communities SpotlightMeasure 71: Business Engagement In 2017, Rockdale County implemented an annual business outreach and collaboration schedule targeting business leaders. Topics the county addressed with private sector leaders included commercial recycling, energy efficiency, and community health. To date, two communities have earned points for Measure 71. We commend both Rockdale and Cobb Counties for bringing their business communities in line with county-wide sustainability goals. Make it PersonalTips on going green in the workplace
