Click here “A moment’s insight is sometimes worth a life’s experience.” —Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. OLD WAYS OF THINKING ABOUT HEALTH PROBLEMSMost people’s perceptions of health tend to skew toward problems. It is not uncommon for us to think of our health as a lifelong process of decline and disease until death, and this shapes our way of managing it. We think of wellness as a strategy to stave off infirmity and of health treatment as a war with disease. The majority of our health spending is applied to insurance and services-related costs. Business leaders often invest exclusively in health treatment coverage as their primary benefit strategy. But health isn’t inherently a problem. The outdated way we view it is. NEW WAYS OF THINKING ABOUT HEALTH POWEROn the other hand, we could take the view that managing health is a lifelong practice of cultivating personal energy and capacity. From this vantage point, our perceptions skew toward potential, power, and possibility—new ways of thinking about health. Our beliefs about health influence our confidence about it. As part of our continued advocacy for new ways of thinking about health, we’re starting 2020 off with a new video about health power. We hope that you will find it stimulating and that you will share it freely. Joyce M.
