Click here NOVEMBER 2019The purpose of Homecoming is to promote campus pride and spirit as well as enhance relations with alumni. Homecoming events were held throughout campus all week culminating with the Homecoming Football game and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. From the annual carnival on the Central Plaza to the concert in Ramsey, tailgating and the football game in E.J Whitmire Stadium, nothing says "fall" like a Homecoming in Cullowhee! 2019 HOMECOMING KING & QUEENChancellor Kelli R. Brown congratulated Samantha Carter, a senior majoring in social work, and Paolo Balladares, a senior majoring in nursing, on being crowned Western Carolina University’s Homecoming queen and king Saturday, Oct. 26. Carter, a graduate of Dixon High School in Holly Ridge, is the daughter of Sonya Carter and Ennett Carter. She serves as a resident assistant on campus and as a vice president for the Delta Zeta sorority. Balladares, a graduate of Clayton High School in Clayton, is the son of Katty Delgado and Pablo Amestica. His activities on campus include serving as a member of the Honors College board of directors and as a senator on the Student Government Association. He also volunteers at local community clinics as a translator. Susannah Kuppers successfully obtained licensure as a clinical addictions specialist (LCAS). The WCU Cycling Club was named the 2019 Southeast Conference Club Mountain Bike Champions. Kim was officially named as the Annual Survey Coordinator for the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, a three-year appointment. Kim is the first woman to assume this position. Jane Adams-Dunford presented on "Careers in Student Affairs" for the Undergraduate Symposium during the Southern Association for College Student Affairs Conference. CAPS NATIONAL AWARDCounseling and Psychological Services won the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) Media Award! The award was presented to Kim Gorman during the annual conference. The award recognized the video series which “works to advance campus mental health and student development”. Counseling and Psychological Services received an award for its self-help video series. Each of the 10 videos features a “Mountain Hipster” character created by Student Affairs graphic artist Carol Barnao. SCHOLARSHIPSThe WCU scholarship application is now available for the 2020-2021 academic year! Students should submit their applications through myWCU by the February 1, 2020 deadline. All students are encouraged to submit the application every year as the criteria for our scholarships vary greatly. Many academic departments select students at the sophomore, junior, and senior levels who are committed and involved in their programs. CATAMOUNT LEGACY WALKLeave your legacy by purchasing a brick on the Catamount Legacy Walk! Located by the Alumni Tower, the walk features bricks engraved with a name or personal message that honors members of the Western Carolina University family. • Celebrate a special occasion such as a birth, anniversary or
graduation Funds raised by the Catamount Legacy Walk support the Student Emergency Fund. Donors receive a commemorative certificate for each brick commissioned.
