National Social Value Conference 2018 in Manchester on 20 & 21 NovemberWe're really excited about this year’s event that we're supporting SVUK members Social Value Portal to deliver. Join us for a participatory two days of discussions, learning and sharing of best practice. Day one is led by Social Value Portal, featuring exciting speakers and a focus on social procurement and leadership. Day two of the conference will be our usual member's exchange format with a range of talks, workshops and roundtables taking place, you can find more information about these on our website. Technical Updates In this section, we will keep you up to date with the latest technical thinking in methodology and provide some essential reading SVI is Part of International bodies joining forces to mainstream impact management via the IMP network A group of leading global organisations, including Social Value International, have created a network called the Impact Management Project (“IMP”), this is an ambitious initiative to provide coherent and end-to-end ‘rules of the road’ for impact management. This network of fantastic collaborators offers a shot at agreeing on standards of practice that may become accepted globally. Collaborators include the United Nationals Development Programme (UNDP) the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG), Social Value International (SVI), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA). Essential Reading 1) Taskforce Better Reporting Landscape Report now published This report captures the fragmented impact reporting landscape identifying 16 different reporting approaches as well as several trends which have the potential to drive coalescence in impact reporting. Assurance + Accreditation News SVUK delivers these services on behalf of Social Value International, find out below how this can verify your work and align to an international standard From now until November 2nd, SVUK and SVI members are able to submit reports to be independently checked by our qualified assessors to decipher if your report shows a good understanding of Social Value principles and practice. The Social Value Certificate has been developed by Social Value International as part of their assurance and accreditation services. The Social Value Principles form the basis for the certification. Building a Movement This section contains a snapshot of what our members are up to Firesouls' Local Community Heroes Firesouls has launched a monthly award which recognises and helps out a local community hero nominated by friends peers and colleagues in the public sector. Last month's winners were Mosaic Clubhouse. If you wish to nominate a can 'local community hero', you can do so here. The winner receives: - A £100 PCWorld or Ryman's gift card - A write up in the Friends of Firesouls newsletter - A shout out across Firesouls' social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn). The winner is announced at the start of each month. CIF Framework join Social Value UK We are very pleased to have CIF Framework on board as organisational members of Social Value UK. Mazars Framework join Social Value UK This month we welcomed Mazars as organisational members of Social Value UK. Gareth Davies, Head of Public Services at Mazars UK, said 'Our aim is to make a positive contribution to society in the way we deliver our services and manage our organisation. We are increasingly being asked to help our clients across all of the sectors we work in as they address the same aims. The Bigger Picture This section focuses on our vision of a world of reduced inequality, environmental degradation and improved wellbeing. Office for National Statistics Continue Work at Quality of Life, Social Well-being Analysis and Centre for Equalities and Inclusion ONS have published some new reports as part of their lengthy research into personal well-being, measurement of well-being across all ages, social capital, loneliness, inequalities, as well as the wider measures of national well-being. Recently published work includes ‘Understanding well-being inequalities: Who has the poorest personal well-being?’ as well as a discovery that ‘Brits spend 29% of their leisure time alone'. Work is continuing over the coming months, including an analysis of children’s and young people’s experiences with loneliness. Measuring and managing social impact to improve well-being in North Wales Organisational members of Social Value UK, Mantell Gwynedd, have authored a blog post for Social Value UK focusing on their social value journey and their mission to improve national wellbeing in Wales. Rockstar Games Criticised for 100 Hour Work Weeks Recently, Rockstar Games has come under fire after co-founder Dan Houser discussed the 100 hour work weeks being worked in the lead up to the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2, released today. Many responded harshly to this claim, due to the intense stress and burden placed upon employees. As subscribers of social value, we aim to live in a world where everybody has a high standard of well-being, which includes not overworking employees.
