Current Scholarships & NMF Primary Care Leadership Program

NMF is currently accepting applications to the 2020 NMF Primary Care Leadership Program (PCLP), including an Early Decision option. See below to learn more about PCLP and three additional NMF scholarships currently open. Eligible students are encouraged to apply at www.nmf.fluidreview.com. 

Applications are due November 17, 2019 for the Empire State Medical Association Scholarship Award and the Manhattan Central Medical Society Scholarship. Applications for the New York Community Trust/NMF Medical Research Scholarship will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until spots are filled for Hepatitis projects ONLY. The NMF Primary Care Leadership Program application is due December 15, 2019 for Early Decision, or January 17, 2020 for Regular Decision (see below).

Please note that all applicants must be sure that their year of school for the 2019-2020 academic year is current under "Applicant Information," found when applicants first log in to their accounts. Service-Learning

    The NMF Primary Care Leadership Program - NEW!

    ​Established with the GE Foundation in 2012, the NMF Primary Care Leadership Program (PCLP) is an innovative service-learning program that provides students with an opportunity to examine the challenges and rewards of primary care practice at community health centers (CHCs) across the United States. Medical students and graduate-level nursing and physician assistant students are invited to apply. Scholars receive a $5,000 scholarship stipend that is expected to cover travel, living, and lodging expenses during the program.

    2020 PCLP Site Partners and program dates are:

    • Boston, MA and select Gateway Cities in MA (June 1 - July 10, 2020)
    • Chicago, IL and Houston, TX (June 8 - July 17, 2020)
    • Los Angeles and Oakland, CA (June 15 - July 24, 2020).
    • Miami, FL (June 15 - July 24, 2020)

    Early Decision applications are due December 15, 2019 at 11:59PM Pacific.     Empire State Medical Association Scholarship Award - CLOSING SOON!

    • Established by the Empire State Medical Association in 2016, this award provides a $2,500 scholarship to one (1) African American student enrolled in a Greater New York City accredited medical school in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service.
    • The Selected Scholar will be required to attend the Scholar Reception on February 20, 2020. 
    • Applications are due November 17, 2019 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

     Manhattan Central Medical Society Scholarship - CLOSING SOON!

    • Established by the Manhattan Central Medical Society in 2014, this award provides a $2,000 scholarship to one (1) African American student enrolled in a Greater New York City accredited medical school in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service.
    • The Selected Scholar will be required to attend the Scholar Reception on February 20, 2020.
    • Applications are due November 17, 2019 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

    New York Community Trust/NMF Medical Research Scholarships - Hepatitis Projects ONLY

    • The New York Community Trust seeks to nurture the talent of medical students engaged in community health research in underserved communities. Seven (7) $6,000 scholarships will be awarded to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year medical students (for the 2019-2020 Academic Year) from underrepresented minority groups. Five (5) scholarships will support hepatitis research, one (1) will support behavioral health research, and one (1) will support medical research (any topic). Students must attend medical school in within the five boroughs of New York City. 
    • As part of the application, students will submit a project scoping form which outlines the project description, research site (i.e., research center or social service agency/organization) and timeline.
    • By February 2020, Scholars must complete their research project and submit a project report and poster that will be displayed at the New York NMF Champions of Health Awards event on May 21, 2020.
    • Applications are extended for hepatitis research projects ONLY. Positions for "medical research (any topic) and behavioral health" have been filled. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
