ICYMI: Social Housing “A city no one except the wealthy can afford is not really a city — it is a gated enclave.” Social housing is any ownership or rental housing that may be owned and managed by the state, by non-profit organizations, or by a combination of the two, usually with the aim of providing affordable housing, protected from market pressures. The event discussed best practices and provided case studies of social housing around the world, and touched on how to phase social housing into a community like San Jose. This panel was organized by San Jose State University Human Rights Institute, Affordable Housing Network, Southbay Community Land Trust, First Community Housing, and the Coalition of Housers (CoHo).
