While visitor numbers ease, the momentum continues as we shift focus to the international stage. We’re now in the midst of trade season — a critical time to connect with our global travel trade partners, share our stories, and promote Hauraki Coromandel as a must-visit destination. This has seen us in attendance at shows such as Tourism Connect, RNTZ Inbound Operator Day, eXplore and TRENZ. Through education, collaboration, and fresh content, we’re ensuring our region stays front of mind for international travellers planning their next adventure. eXplore 2025 Following on from last years show (attended by Waihi Gold Discovery Centre and Falls Retreat) Hauraki Coromandel had an awesome turn out. The region well represented by Kiwi Dundee, Jolly Bikes, Hillbrook Estate, Glass Bottom Boat, Hahei Explorer, Mercury Bay Discovery, Coromandel Ocean Adventures, The Lost Spring, Hauraki Rail Trail (supporting Central North Island Trails) and Destination Hauraki Coromandel. This attendance was well received by over 200 buyers. Hauraki Coromandel joined 7 other Central North Island regions, totalling over 100 tourism products. Attending businesses were also treated to a professional development seminar with speakers covering topics including AI, Employment support & advice, working with Online Travel Agents, plus inspiring stories from Rotorua Canopy Tours and Gannet Safaris Overland. ![]() TRENZ TRENZ is New Zealand’s largest international tourism business event and the most important event of the year on the tourism events calendar. TRENZ brings hundreds of international travel buyers together to meet with New Zealand’s leading tourism operators (sellers) over three days to build or renew relationships and negotiate business for upcoming seasons. This year DHC have been joined by Driving Creek, for their second year. Their iconic train trip has become increasingly popular and complemented by the zipline, pottery and conservation experiences. Mercury Ridge, luxury accommodation overlooking Cooks Beach, have signed up for their first year at TRENZ
as they look to establish their product with international travel sellers. Kiwi Dundee is also in attendance, representing Boutique Travel. Over the course of three days, DHC will have 50 appointments with agents from all around the world and will be hosting familiarisation tours into the region immediately after TRENZ. ![]() Tourism Industry Database A reminder to those who haven't yet completed our industry survey, we ask that you please take 5 minutes to share with us your business details. TCDC Economic Development Survey The Thames-Coromandel District Council’s Economic Development team wants to hear from you. They are inviting businesses across our district to take part in the Economic Development Survey for Local Businesses, open from Thursday 1 May to midnight, Saturday 31 May 2025. Your feedback will help shape future Council decisions and guide our ongoing work to strengthen the local economy. Results from this survey will be included in reports to Council, including Long Term Plan reporting, where we track key performance measures.
