The National Vaccine Storage Guidelines ‘Strive for 5’ third edition is now available along with new supporting resources. The third edition of the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines 'Strive for 5' have been released by the Australian Government, Department of Health. ![]() Rethinking Mental Health Forum 6.0 - call for abstracts extended! The Rethinking Mental Health Forum has returned for another year! This year we are exploring a 'Whole of Health Approach to Mental Health'. Do you care about improving mental wellbeing? Have lived experience insights? Are you are carer? Are you involved in research or an innovative program/organisation? Abstracts are now open until 19 July 2019. Learn about psychosocial disability support and the NDIS Find out how to support patients with a psychosocial disability to access the NDIS. This session will also cover support for people who are not eligible for the NDIS. Attendees have found these education sessions a valuable learning experience. Better connections: Your health, your say The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) is facilitating a national conversation to develop a blueprint for a more modern, digitally connected health system. My Health Record Update The latest edition of the My Health Record Newsletter for GPs and medical specialists was released on 27 June. Get the latest statistics on GP and pharmacy registrations, more information on the new Pharmacist Shared Medicines List , and the latest resources available including upcoming webinars. Assessing capacity for patients with a psychological condition Comcare recognises the critical role GPs play in helping people with ill health or injury to recover and participate in work. To support this role, we have produced a new resource for GPs on assessing capacity for patients with a psychological condition. Presented by consultant psychiatrist Dr Dielle Felman, the five-minute video provides better practice information and recommendations for treating health practitioners on how to practically assess capacity for work for patients with a psychological condition. The resource is also useful for those supporting workers
with a psychological condition, such as case managers, rehabilitation providers and injury management staff, to understand how capacity has been assessed and certified. Upcoming CPD Event: Diagnosis and Management of Low Back Pain Join us on Tuesday 30 July for our CPD event “Diagnosis and Management of Low Back Pain” at the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Leading researchers and clinician researchers from the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health will provide a best evidence update on strategies to manage low back pain in primary care. This event is for registered and practicing GPs only. Event: Cultural diversity in opioid use - enhancing responses Led by Jenny Brockie from SBS, join a panel of experts from drug and alcohol services, multicultural health and consumer representatives for an informative and thought provoking discussion about ways to enhance support for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. CPD event: Treatment approaches for benzodiazepines and insomnia Join us for an informative discussion on the latest medical updates on benzodiazepines - prescribing and conversations with patients. Dr Sonia Kumar (Woolcock Centre) is also presenting on insomnia and treatment approaches. CPD event: Pharmacotherapy for Alcohol Dependence This session covers the medications used to manage alcohol detoxification and relapse prevention for alcohol dependent patients. This session is for GPs, practice nurses and other allied health clinicians working in primary care. It will assist them to understand the principles of detoxification, relapse prevention and aftercare for patients with alcohol dependence and will help equip them with the skills to identify, treat and or refer for detoxification, manage relapse prevention and aftercare with their patients in the course of usual consultations. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in children and adolescents This year the CICADA Centre NSW will host a two-day training event "Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in children and adolescents" for clinicians working in metal health or drug and alcohol to develop knowledge and skills in diagnosing and managing FASD in children and adolescents. Registration is due by 31 July 2019. National Comorbidity Guidelines online training program The National Comorbidity Guidelines and accompanying online training program are free, evidence-based online resources on the management and treatment of cooccurring AOD and mental health conditions. Prince of Wales Hospital general practice survey This survey looks at discharge summaries from Prince of Wales Hospital. Discharge summaries are invaluable for the continuity of care and safe transition between the hospital and the patient back to the care of their nominated primary healthcare provider. We would like GPs to identify their level of satisfaction with the current structure, content and overall effectiveness of the discharge summaries they receive from POWH. The intention is to utilise feedback from GPs to make positive changes to ensure that practice is consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and AMA Position Statement - General Practice/Hospitals Transfer of Care Arrangements – 2013. CINSW BreastScreen Video Campaign Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in NSW, with one in eight women developing breast cancer in their lifetime. BreastScreen NSW aims to help women detect breast cancer early by providing free screening mammograms to women across NSW. Redfern Legal Service - New legal service for people who have experienced financial abuse This state-wide service provides free, confidential legal information and advice to people who have experienced financial abuse in an intimate partner relationship.
