Learn how to make string art! String art is characterized by an arrangement of colored thread strung between points to form geometric patterns or representational design. Thread, wire, or string is wound around a grid of nails hammered into a wooden board. This workshop will introduce you to the basics of string art for you to use on future projects. East Buntyn ArtWalk

East Buntyn ArtWalk is an open air arts festival. Artists set up in booths in the front yards and porches all throughout the neighborhood to display and sell their creations. Admission is free, and we are kid-friendly and pet-friendly. The headquarters is at St. James Anglican Church. We will have food trucks, live music, and a silent auction. The Office of Student Success Programs (SSP) will offer assistance to students who are preparing to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). This intensive, small-group seminar is designed to help test-takers brush up on their test taking skills, review materials for the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam, and practice by taking full length practice tests. Paige Jackson chosen for prestigious BioTrain internship

Paige Jackson was selected out of 300 applicants for the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology BioTrain internship, which offers students the opportunity to connect classwork with real‐world job experience and gain skills and knowledge that will prepare them for careers in biotechnology and related fields.

Paige will spend nine weeks at HudsonAlpha, a nonprofit research institute in Huntsville, Ala.

Interns will present their work conducted this summer at a public poster session at HudsonAlpha, July 27. Next year’s applications will open in January. For more information and to apply, visit their website.

New Summer School Initiatives

1. 3+3 Initiative
Eligible freshman who take at least three credit hours during summer 2018 will be offered free tuition (program course fees excluded) for up to three additional credit hours. The 3+3 Initiative is available to new freshmen who began in summer 2017, fall 2017 or spring 2018. The initiative is designed to help students reach the goal of graduation within four years. Eligible students will be notified via email within the next few days. (Please note: Students must be eligible for federal student aid. TN e-campus courses are excluded from the free offer.) 2. New for Summer 2018 -  Federal Pell Grant Recipients
Federal Pell Grant recipients who have not yet reached their lifetime eligibility (6 full-time years) may be eligible for additional Summer Pell Grant during the Summer term(s). This is a huge benefit for Freshman who qualify for Pell Grants because they could potentially use their Pell Grant to cover one course and take an additional for free by utilizing the 3+3 initiative.

McWherter Library Open 24 Hours for Finals Week

McWherter Library will have extended hours during finals week. Beginning April 26th-May 2nd, the Commons Room will be open 24 hours with the rest of the library having extended hours.

The Crews Center is hosting a Fast Pitch Competition where students can present their business ideas, showcase their talent and passion for entrepreneurship, and compete for $5,000 in cash prizes. Information sessions about the competition will be held at the Crews Center. Competition details, awards, eligibility, judging and presentation tips will be reviewed. Submit your Video Pitch by April 13th.
