Another Semester in the Books!

We hope that we find you ready for the summer and excited to help your student celebrate another semester well-done.

Here in parent & family programs, we are getting excited to welcome a new bunch of parent & family members to the program through new student orientation, Navigate, this summer.

While your student might not be taking classes over the summer, know that we are here during the summer to help answer any questions that you may have! Enjoy the great weather!

Spring Commencement

This Saturday, May 7th, brings one large group of graduates. We are pleased to share that we have 800+ students eligible for walking in commencement; this has been such a successful year! We are conferring degrees ranging from associates to doctorate degrees. View our highlighted stories on our website of upcoming graduates here: Graduation Stories Spring 2016.

If you are one of the many guests joining us this weekend, do not forget about our overflow seating that will be utilized when we hit capacity in the space or once the processional begins at 9:45am. We look forward to seeing all of our great family members present to congratulate the class of 2016! Go Pirates!

Getting Ahead in the Summer!

Is your student coming home for the summer? While it is a great time to take a breather from coursework and spend time with family, we encourage students to capitalize on the opportunities before them!

The summer is a great time to volunteer, study abroad, have an internship, shadow professionals in the field, and so much more! As a family member, you can help connect your student with resources that can get them involved in building their resume outside the classroom.

Consider talking with your student now about summer plans and how to "get ahead". Career Services and Volunteer Services are great resources, along with many others at Armstrong. These offices can help support your student in gaining those well-rounded experiences and skills that are needed in the professional world. Open communication and motivation is exactly what your student needs at this time of the year.

Summer Courses & Academic Support

Students completing summer courses at Armstrong will go through their course work in a time frame of either four or eight weeks.  While eight weeks is a traditional semester length, four weeks  is a more accelerated semester than they may be used to experiencing. Encourage your student to seek out academic support services such as tutoring, the writing center, etc to succeed in this semester. While some students may look at the summer as a time to relax and play catch up, these courses are imperative to their success!

Visit the Academic Support website for more information: HERE

Advisement & Registration for Fall 2016

The Office of Academic Advising & Support is in full swing with getting students ready for the summer and fall 2016 semesters. Make sure you talk with your student about if they are prepared prior to leaving campus! Students must meet with their advisor and then they can register for their courses. Registering earlier is key!

If you have a new student joining the university in the fall, no worries! We will do this through summer orientation. If a new student for summer, they meet with their advisor to get those courses, but then attend orientation and we set up their fall schedule.

More information about Academic Advisement and Registration can be found here.
