The impacts of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic have placed an additional burden resulting in a significant increase in alcohol and substance misuse across Melbourne’s south east. Since the pandemic, around one in five adults purchased more alcohol, with the highest consumption in adult males and females aged 35-44. Analysis of demography of the City of Casey demonstrates a high level of life complexity factors including financial issues, dependence on government assistance, accommodation issues, homelessness, poor self-assessed health, and high rates of family violence and unemployment. People experiencing alcohol and drug addiction in the Casey region will now have free access to therapeutic support to help them regain control over their substance use. ResetLife is a highly-structured program that includes individual, group, and family education sessions. The program guides the client through real-life situations, giving information and skills to help regain control over drug and alcohol use. The ResetLife program focuses on the client’s cognitive, behavioural, emotional and relationship issues, which may contribute to substance dependence. The program team consists of a key clinical supervisor, a primary therapist, a peer support coordinator, and a family therapist. This team delivers a highly structured, integrated and time-limited treatment approach consisting of individual/joint therapy structured sessions focusing on early recovery skills, relapse prevention, family education, and continuing care social support. The treatment runs for 52 weeks with 16 weeks of Intensive structured treatment followed by 36 weeks of continuing care. Clients will attend formal treatment three days per week and informal treatment the other days of the week. The service will commence on 1 September 2021 and is open for referrals via SEMPHN's Access & Referral by telephone: 1800 862 363 (8.30 am—4.30 pm weekdays). |
