A WORD FROM JASON REDMAN

Dear Team,
Thank you for a wonderful year.  I would like to wish you and your families a fun filled break, coupled with some love and laughter together.  YIPPEE (:

A special thanks goes to the Operations team, along with the team in the Office for this past year.  These individuals build great teams.  They have an amazing ability and spirit that is unquestionable week in week out, under extreme pressure and always delivering Reds Global principals "First Choice in Materials Handling".  I say thank you again.

The commitment to a safe outcome is vital to you and Reds Global.  Safety is the most important message I can put forward to our team.  Our families, our friends and our work mates lives would be changed forever if we were hurt.  I urge you during this time to reflect on the year just passed and consider if there are areas that you and Reds Global can make to improve safety.  Please put these things into action, be a leader, look for smarter ways to improve safety and improve productivity.  Reds Global is a massive part of building apartments, hospitals and infrastructure, striving to make Sydney a better place for our families and the community to live.

I had a timely reminder about how fragile life is with a friend of mine passing away, leaving 2 young children without a father.  During this festive season it is important to remember to be kind to yourselves by avoiding drugs and alcohol, breathe deep and put good food into your bodies.  Step out of the norm and step into breathing and step into life!

Zig Ziglar: "if you owned a million dollar horse, would you keep it up all night drinking, smoking and eating crap food, without exercise and hope that it would win races? "

I am sure the answer would be no.  Look after yourselves, have a safe holiday and I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

A WORD FROM DAVE BROWN

Welcome to our last newsletter for 2016

What an amazing year it has been at Reds Global and within our industry. It has been a year that we have seen some amazing changes and challenges.

2016 seems like it has sprinted through and as we all try to catch up and finalise the year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the efforts that you have all put into making Reds Global the first choice in "materials handling”  for our clients.

When we return in 2017 Reds Global will be implementing some subtle changes to our safety and operational systems that are very exciting and will bring welcomed change to the way we report with our on site documentation.

Early 2017 will also see the arrival of four new Terex Comedil Luffing Cranes, that have been purchased as part of our replacement programme.  This will see some of our older cranes replaced with larger capacity brand new CTL-430 Luffing Cranes.

Reds Global are updating, improving and fast becoming the leader in our industry with a modern fleet of tower cranes, increasing our market presence in the larger capacity cranes.

I would personally like to thank Jason Redman and his wonderful family for the commitment they have given each of us with continued training, education and opportunities throughout 2016.

The development of Reds Global that I have witnessed as the operations manager is absolutely extraordinary and with out a doubt, the most remarkable growth that I have ever seen.

Please take an opportunity to remind yourselves that we are Reds Global, we are a team that is second to none.

We would like to ask that you all celebrate the Christmas and new year period safely and that you return to your relevant projects as you have left in 2016.

Thank you all for your support and efforts in 2016 and may you have a Christmas as remarkable as each of you are.

Take care and remember to always give that little bit more, that extra 10%.

With our kind regards

Dave Brown

SAFETY MESSAGE

Do you know the correct procedure to follow if you have an injury?
The consequences of injuries can lead to the person suffering pain and distress but the business can also be affected through cost, reputation and business loss.

All Lost Time Injuries (LTI), Restricted Work Injuries (RWI) and Medical Treatment Injuries (MTI), make up the Total Recordable Injuries (TRI). LTI statistics are reported to possible clients when tendering for work.  There is the potential to lose work due to a high number of Lost Time Injuries (LTI).  This is just one of the reasons why the below process must be followed.  This will ensure the best outcome for yourself and the business.

For all incidents:

  • STOP all work activities
  • SEEK immediate treatment for any illness or injury
  • CONTACT your direct supervisor
  • COMPLETE the site incident form with the site first aider or safety office
  • ENSURE you have a copy for your record of injury to send to Reds Global if on a client site
  • PARTICIPATE in any investigations that are required at the site

First response to an illness or injury is crucial to receiving the best treatment possible and all sites will have a first aid officer on duty.  For all incidents ensure the site manager has been contacted immediately about what has happened.

Once the incident has been reported to site officials, and the site first aid personnel have attended to any injury or illness, Reds Global must be contacted immediately on either of the following numbers:

  • Return to Work Coordinator 0448 515 185
  • Work Health Safety Manager 0448 515 185
  • Operations Manager 0421 414 586
  • Principal 0403 923 355

If you are injured as a result of an incident and have to leave site for a medical assessment the supervisor or first aid attendant will organise transport.

Reds Global will discuss with you, your injuries or illness and duties available if the medical practitioner decides you are not fit to resume normal duties.

A Reds Global representative will attend where possible and ensure you have the Injured Workers Guide with you that can nominate duties for injured workers.

Keep safe team and always remember the above.

TRAINING

Rope Access and Rescue Training at Sydney Olympic Park
The second part of the rope access and rescue course was completed by our rigging team on Saturday, 19.11.16 and Meriton Constructions were kind enough to allow us access to the tower crane at their site.

The day was a success with the Blacktown Fire Brigade in attendance.  The feedback from them was that they found the day to be very educational and enlightening.  We also received some really positive feedback from Meriton who were excited to watch the training take place.

MESSAGES

A WORD FROM RACHEL LAIDLAW

Hello Team,
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who attended the Reds Global Christmas Party and most of all everyone who helped with the organisation of the event.  A special thank you to Ann Smedts.  Ann put in a lot of work to ensure they day went well and it really did.  The Reds Global Christmas Party was so much fun!

It has been a very interesting year for me.  I started with Reds Global in August after being offered a temporary position as Office Manager.  This position was quickly changed to permanent and it has been an amazing journey ever since.  Its so inspiring to see the work that goes into every side of the business and how everything comes together to make Reds Global the winning team that it is.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Newsletter this year.  Thank you for all the photo comp entries, team news and updates.  Please keep them coming.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone the best for the holiday season and I look forward to working with you all in the new year.

All the best.

REDS GLOBAL UPDATES

Negative to Positive

Hello Team,

First I would like to introduce myself, my name is Benjamine Abas and this is a positive story that I would like to share with you. I have just taken over the roll as Labour Allocator. How did I get here you say?

Well believe it or not, it all started with me falling off a deck at a job site and injuring myself. I know right? How can this be looked at, in any way, as a positive experience? Bear with me and you will see how such a negative experience turned into something very positive.

After the incident, I went through the procedure of seeing doctors, getting an MRI and speaking to WorkCover. Following this, I started the drive out to Somersby to start my light duties. I had never met Jason Redman, and I believe I can very easily say that first impressions aren’t always right. On my first day in the office, I had asked Jason that I will not be able to be in tomorrow as I have a doctor’s appointment at 12:00pm the next day. His solid response was “mate I need you to come in.”

WOW, I know right? Great first impression. In my mind I was thinking; really I need to drive there and back for three hours, just to be at work for four hours. I believe that the next 4 weeks were going to be hell.

Can you see the positive yet?… No? … Me neither… YET?

As the weeks went by I started working with Jason and Dave. Dave had me doing a few things to get me going through the day so I wouldn’t be sitting there bored out of my brain. Then Jason came along and would pile me with more work to do, but I pushed along and got the work done.

On my third week, Jason and Dave were going out to visit sites where we are going to erect new cranes and, to my surprise, Jason had invited me to come along. The trip was very interesting. I started to see how another part of the business works. I saw a different side to both Jason and Dave. Passion and drive for what they do and how much they love it. The great work and long hours that Dave puts into the business is hidden behind the walls of the Somersby office. The passion Jason has to push the business to new levels and grow. It was at this point that I had made my decision that I would want to work with them.

Coming into my last week in the office, Jason and Dave would joke around while I was in earshot, for way to set up traps to injure my other knee. Whether it was piano wire to trip me on the way out to the car, or dropping a piano on me. So, more out of fear to my life, I decided to speak to Jason and discuss a possible position for me in the office. (joking on the fear to my life… Jason is next to me I had to put that in lol)

We came to an agreement that I will take over the role of Labour Allocator. Today is my first day and I thought it best to share how such a negative incident has turned in to this really positive experience. No matter how negative an incident is, I believe that even if there is a 1% positive outcome from it, it is an experience worth having.

I want to thank the team at Somersby for the great work they do, both office and yard staff. They are the gears that move this great machine being Red’s Global.

Thank you for your time and sharing how my Negative incident has turned Positive.

Benjamine Abas
