CESPHN After Hours social media series: Know your after hours options

This video is part of our After Hours social media campaign, which encourages community members to use after hours GP services in our region.

In the past month, this campaign has reached over 100,000 Facebook users. 

This one is subtitled in Nepali. We also have Chinese, Spanish, Bengali and Arabic versions. The campaign is sent out across Facebook and Instagram.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses for RACF residents 

Primary Health Networks (PHNs) are working to implement local solutions to ensure access to people who missed out on their second Pfizer dose at a residential aged care facility (RACF). 

The Department of Health has updated its COVID-19 vaccine doses policy. The updated policy specifies that people should only be vaccinated if they expect to be at the facility to receive both doses. The policy also provides that first doses should not be administered at a second dose clinic.

CESPHN has developed a new Immunisation in RACFs website with information and resources to support immunisation within Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) 

  • Ordering vaccines in RACFs

  • Influenza vaccines in RACFs 

  • COVID-19 vaccines in RACFs 

CESPHN WEBINAR: Clinician Vaccine Integrated Platform

This webinar will equip staff from COVID vaccination clinics with a sound knowledge of how to use the Clinician Vaccine Integrated Platform (CVIP).

New Service Navigation for Psychosocial Support

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN’s new service navigation for Psychosocial Support has been created to help support people identify and locate the right mental health services for them. 

It can be accessed by consumers, their families and carers, GPs, allied health and community practitioners.

The service enables early and easy access to health services by promoting available psychosocial programs in our region.

SESLHD improving communications of patient care information 

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) will be using secure messaging solutions of Argus, HealthLink and Medical Objects to send Inpatient Admissions, Transfer to HITH (Hospital In The Home) ward and Discharge notifications to GPs.

Please note, this will take affect from April 13th, 2021. Faxing of Inpatient admission and discharge notifications will cease on this date. 

To be able to receive patient care information successfully, please ensure you are connected to a secure messaging solution such as Argus, HealthLink or Medical Objects. If you require any assistance with this, please contact CESPHNs Digital Health team via digitalhealth@cesphn.com.au

How GPs can assist older people impacted by COVID restrictions  

Relationships Australia NSW’s Reconnect Wellbeing Support is a free service for older Australians experiencing feelings of isolation and disconnection as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Reconnect service is designed for over 65s, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over 55 who live in the central and eastern Sydney area. 

You can expect: 

  • A friendly 1-2 hour conversation with a qualified professional 
  • Personalised support to help identify services and steps to reach your desired outcomes
  • Appointments can be conducted online, over the phone, or in person (following COVID-19 safe procedures). There is also access to interpreters and cultural translation services.

eReferrals to the Sydney Local Health District SmartForms Information Webinar 

General Practices using Best Practice, Genie and Medical Director can take advantage of Healthlink SmartForms to send eReferrals directly from their software, with significant part of the eReferral pre-populated from the patient file.

The solution is user friendly, fully electronic, time efficient and secure. Over 45 SLHD clinics are now connected.

Take advantage of learning more about this innovative way of referring to the SLHD. Sarah Friend, eReferral Project Officer and Paul Bennett, Program Manager HealthPathways Sydney and SLHD eReferral Project will conduct a demonstration of how eReferrals are generated in Best Practice and Medical Director software, as well as updating you on most recent developments and answer any of your questions. New Oesophageal Disorders Service at St Vincent's Hospital  

The St Vincent's Centre for Swallowing & Oesophageal Disorders has opened in St Vincent's Hospital and provides a highly specialised, world-class diagnostic and therapeutic service to patients across NSW with complex oesophageal disorders.

Primary health providers should be aware aware that this service is open to referral from general practitioners and is one of only a handful of its kind in Australia.

NDIA - Release of Autism Paper

The NDIA is seeking feedback on the most appropriate and best practice early childhood intervention supports for children on the autism spectrum, to be funded under the NDIS.

On the 30th of March, the Agency released a consultation paper, ‘Interventions for children on the autism spectrum’.

The paper aims to stimulate conversation with participants, families, carers and the wider sector on what should be considered reasonable and necessary supports for children with autism.

The Community Engagement and Communication Branch will be running a series of consultation sessions available on the Events page of their website.

Allied health services in Residential Aged Care Facilities

Additional access to Allied Health services for residents in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) is currently available as part of the Government's ongoing COVID-19 response. 

The new temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items for Allied Health services give residents in RACFs access to:

  • An additional 5 sessions of selected physical Allied Health services
  • A total of 20 sessions of individual psychological services each year. 

These items are available until 30 June, 2022.
