April 2014

Greetings from the Skoll World Forum and welcome to the April issue of AMP's newsletter!

This past month has been exciting for AMP and our partners throughout the world:

  • AMP officially joined the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC!
“We are delighted for AMP to join the Institute. AMP is a natural fit as we expand our programs to incorporate implementation-oriented initiatives in emerging markets,” announced Elliot Gerson, the Aspen Institute's executive vice president of policy and public programs, international partners.
  • AMP partner in Brazil, FEI's (University of Industrial Engineering) Dr. Jacques Demajorovic, launched his newest book in São Paulo.
  • I was honored to be a first-round judge in the Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge and to participate in last Friday's, April 4, Finals Event. It was inspiring to see the high-caliber teams from graduate programs around the world presenting institutional-quality investment strategies with the potential to deliver positive social or environmental impact along with competitive financial returns.
  • Next month, AMP is hosting a roundtable on Harnessing Market-Driven Partnerships to Address Climate Change in Washington, DC. We hope you'll be able to join us.

Last month was also an important month for climate related reasons. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) produced its first comprehensive report since 2007 on the changes that might accompany a rising global temperature and on humanity’s potential to cope with them. This report highlights the critical importance of addressing climate change now. As Secretary of State Kerry said,"read this report and you can't deny the reality: Unless we act dramatically and quickly, science tells us our climate and our way of life are literally in jeopardy." AMP works to increase the amount and effectiveness of capital invested into climate resilience and low- carbon technologies. We believe that it is time to debunk the false choice between achieving robust economic growth and addressing climate change.

Let's continue the conversation on Twitter! Make sure to follow me at @CycleNomad and AMP at @AMPGlobal and share your thoughts with us there.

Best regards,

Robert Foster,
Executive Director
