Who we are
My name is Tricia McKenzie and I am an education officer at the State Library. I have had over 15 years teaching experience in High Schools, Primary Schools, Indigenous education and in Education Support. I have held leadership roles in areas such as Library and IT, gifted and talented programing, literacy and mathematics.
My passion for Western Australian history was first developed when teaching in the Goldfields region. Then, teaching for five years in the UK, immersed me in history on a greater scale.
I love my work here at the State Library. I get to combine my love of history with my love of literature in my day-to-day work and share that enthusiasm with school children, educators and the general public through our workshops, teacher resources and exhibitions.
For more information on the workshops we faciitate, check out our website.

Simpson and His Donkey, Original Works is a free exhibition of original illustrations from the children's picture book, Simpson and His Donkey, by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac. The colourful illustrations in this exhibition are a stark contrast with the wartime events, and together with the story, give a deeper understanding of the bravery of Australians at war.
Simpson and His Donkey, Original Works is supported by a self-guided educational trail and the workshop, Digging Up the Past - World War 1. For further information phone (08)9427 3202 or email your request to ed@slwa.wa.gov.au

Workshop in focus: Tours
What can be found at the State Library? What treasures does it hold?
The State Library education team facilitates informative and engaging tours for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Find It @ the Library is a guided tour for Kindergarten to Year 2 students. Students become library 'detectives' who explore the collections of the State Library and seek out hidden clues using their own treasure map.
Beyond Books tour is a fun, hands-on tour that highlights different State Library collections. This guided tour is suitable for Years 3 to 12 and can be tailored to suit specific curriculum requirements.
For further information about our tours, and to book, please complete a booking request form, phone (08) 9427 3202 or email your request to ed@slwa.wa.gov.au

Resource in focus: Trove newspapers
Historical newspapers are a useful resource in the classroom. Primary source materials, such as newspapers, can provide new perspectives to historical events and can transport students to a different time and place.
The State Library of WA has an extensive collection of newspapers dating back to 1833. These can be accessed online via the National Library of Australia's Trove database.
