Autumn Edition #1 | 2019

At Mount Zero Olives, we think about olives A LOT. This month we've prepared a blog piece called "All About the Olive" which answers some of our most asked questions. Have a read and let us know if there are any more (olive related) questions you'd like us to consider!

As part of our next Warehouse Market (Saturday 13 April), we are running a curing workshop. We invite you to come along with your buckets and reusable containers and leave with your own newly brined olives - plus the know-how to do it yourself next year.

See you there, Rich

PINK LAKE SALT

Our annual Pink Lake Salt harvest is on the horizon. It's an amazing time of year; we get to walk on the beautiful lake, reconnect with our harvest partners at the Barengi Gadjin Land Council and hand harvest this amazing, tasty and nutritious resource.

Our Pink Lake Salt is 100% sustainable, harvested ethically and completely unadulterated.

WAREHOUSE MARKET DAY No.3

Our zero-waste market day is back (Saturday 13 April) and will be running as a quarterly event from now on!

As always, we ask attendees to bring their own re-usable jars, bags and vessels so that they can pour and scoop until their heart's content.

Also, bring a keep cup! Market Lane will be pouring free coffees and Sourdough Kitchen will be on hand with a delicious range of pastries.

BLOG - All About the Olive

As you can imagine, the Mount Zero Olives team get asked all kinds of questions about olives - from how many varieties there are, to what they taste like; to how to store them and how to cook them.

Well, we could talk about olives all day (and we do), so to help you understand our favourite fruit (yep fruit folks!) we put together a quick Q&A which addresses some of the most common queries.

Our Olive Curing Recipe

Here it is, our tried and true olive curing recipe. It's not ours per se, it's actually a traditional Greek recipe that has been used for centuries.

As is our way, this recipe is light on additions. We prefer to allow the unique flavours of our fruit to shine.

LOCAL HERO - NOURISH BALNARRING

Anne Lukis of Nourish Balnarring is one of those lucky folk who gets to enjoy the fresh air and coastline of the Mornington Peninsula daily. Anne's store, like so many of our retailers, is a local hub for top quality, local and organic produce. Read on below for our Q&A with Anne.

How and when was Nourish Balnarring established?
I established Nourish in 2012 to fill a gap in the organics market on the (Mornington) Peninsula.

Why do you think it's important to support independent retailers?Supporting independent is important on a number of levels.  We support the local economy, local growers and families. It is a convenient, individualised and personal way to shop.
We are not answerable to shareholders, so the business is not just about profit margins.

What should we be eating right now?
I think it's important to eat what makes you feel good. To me this equates to fresh, seasonal, unprocessed and of course organic.  With so many fad diets around I think it's important to nourish your mind & body with what works for you.

What is your favourite Mount Zero product?
My favourite product would have to be your delicious fruity organic olive oil & I cant go past your Kalamata olives!  Oh and your Dukkah!
