Wunee keesuq Tribal family,

Humbly, I share with you an update regarding our land protection legislation.

Today the House Natural Resources Committee moved our legislation, H.R. 312, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act, closer to becoming law by voting to move the bill forward out of that Committee.  The Committee’s strong bi-partisan action follows the positive hearing on the bill only three weeks ago, and paves the way for consideration and passage by the House of Representatives.

Today’s action provides an incredible and much needed lift for our people. The remarkable bipartisan support of the legislation has been a unifying force not only across Indian Country but across the United States of America.

The amount of out-pouring from citizens of this nation and nations outside of the U.S., by lending their voices and support by signing petitions, writing letters, and sharing OUR message has been phenomenal. We are Not Alone!

I also want to recognize Congressmen Keating and Kennedy for their unwavering support of our Tribe as well as the long list of GOP cosponsors like Tom Cole and Don Young who have stood up for what is right, and to Committee Chairman Raul Grijalva, and Subcommittee Chairman Ruben Gallego and Ranking Member Cook....they have championed our efforts with force.

Additionally, I want to thank both Congressman Tom McClintock and a very special thank you to our dear friend Congresswoman Deb Haaland for their passionate discussion on our behalf today!

We believe...Mashpee above everything!

 Kutâputunumuw!
