One item is that we don't have a Member Spotlight this month, because I'm the spotlight and neglected to get my information to Tracy in time (whoops!). So...you will just have to wait, with bated breath, for next month's Squeal (please read that last sentence with an epic level of sarcasm). I do want to sincerely wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a really happy and safe New Year! Here's to a great 2018! Keep it Classy Susquehanna - Melissa Mauro Note from the REFrom me and the rest of the Susquehanna SCCA (somewhat dysfunctional, but very fun) family to yours, wishing you a very happy and healthy holiday season. I look forward to seeing you all for another fun-filled year of motorsports in 2018!p.s. I hope to see you all at the banquet, January 13th where we can have a proper toast to the season. Watch for registration to open December 1! End-Of-Year Banquet Our end-of-year banquet is coming up in less than a month! It's happening on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel. If you haven't registered yet, the spots are filling up quickly! The event is capped at 120, and we already have 102 registered. We don't want you to miss out on the fun - so you can click on link below to register, and check out the event details. Hope to see you there! Special Note to all Region Members! by Alan Lesher The Susquehanna Region is in the planning stages for an annual technical inspection day to be held Saturday, February. 24, 2018, with Saturday March 3 as the foul-weather make up day. Annual tech will be available for GCR/Road Race and PHA/Hillclimb cars. The e-board is working on a plan to provide an annual tech for Autocross cars. The event will be held at Auto Seat Cover Co. in Harrisburg, Pa. Stay tuned to region media for more announcements on this important subject. Help Wanted As the calendar turns to 2018, a number of Advisory Committees are seeking new members. From Club Racing to Solo to RallyCross, Advisory Committee members help steer programs into the future. Interested parties should submit their resume at www.crbscca.com. Summit Point Repaved by Alan Lesher The 2 mile, main track, at Summit Point Motorsport Park has been repaved. A handful of events were allowed on the new surface after repaving was completed in late October. NASA hosted a time trial only event in mid November and the Vintage Racers Group hosted their season ending Turkey Bowl the weekend after Thanksgiving Day. I attended/drove Saturday in my '95 Neon, former showroom stock car. The weather improved over the week leading up to the event, to the point that temps. were approaching 60 deg. The new surface is smooth and fast. Turns 1 & 2 are about the same as before. Turn 3 shows improvement, as the crowning at the top is less pronounced. It looks like the runoff after #3 is a little longer/smoother. The chute is unchanged. Turn 5 (left) had a dip on the inside that appears to be gone. The carousel and "S" turns (6-9) are unchanged except for the new asphalt & re-graded runoff areas. Turn 10 (right onto front straight) has about 2 more feet of painted asphalt runoff area on the outer edge of the turn. This is followed by a few feet of concrete before the gravel trap. All the outer edges are in good shape & at grade with the track. Very good job by Summit Point! December Regional MeetingSusquehanna Region doesn’t hold a regional meeting during the month of December. Please note that meeting days are changing starting in January 2018! Meeting venue and time will remain the same, but we’ll meet on the 4th Thursday of every month instead of Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you at a meeting next year! Anniversaries! Let's all congratulate the following region members who are celebrating big anniversaries with SCCA this month:
SCCA Releases 2018 Schedules Just when you think there is nothing else race-related to look forward to in 2017, SCCA National announces next year's schedule! So far, they've just released the AutoCross schedules, but I'll be sure to update everyone as more are released. If you haven't participated in a National-level event, you should really consider giving it a shot! The events have complex courses, and more rules than you'll see at local events, but that also brings some amazing cars and talented driver to watch during the events! The Match Tour Events and Pro Solo Events are different than normal AutoCross events, and offer different elements for more seat time and experience. Listed below are details on how the events work and run, and the schedules for next year. ClassifiedsDon't forget our new Buy & Sell Page on the website.
