The SISKA/ORWA prize giving was held at FSC on Saturday 18th July after a rather interesting Valmadre Mayflower race day. Joss dominated Division 1 and took out the Siska trophy as well as the Offshore Series and Bluewater series on all handicaps! Well done guys. In Division 2 on IRC it was Crush (Bluewater winner) and Atomic Blonde (Offshore) who had a fantastic struggle all season. Sagacious picked up the PHS result in the Bluewater Series and Soon in the Offshore series. The Corinthian Cup, sponsored by Mark Nagle and Kerman Construction was wone by Endorfin (Division 1) and Wyuna (Division 2). For full results go to the flash new website for ORWA Inc! In the Valmadre Winter Keelboat Series, things are well set up for a close finish on all handicaps in both Divisions, with everything to race for in the final Voladora race on 1 August. Thanks go to all the volunteers for their continued support over the winter series. Fleets have been strong with around 24 boats. UPCOMING EVENTS• FSC 2019/20 Offshore Prize-giving (including Valmadre Series)Skippers, sailors, and supporters generally are reminded that on Saturday 1st August after the last Valmadre race, FSC will be hosting their 2019/20 trophy and award presentations for the Offshore season. This will include the Success Cup, The Captain Stirling Cup, and The Harbour Classic, along with individual race awards. The Valmadre Cup will also be presented on the evening. This event will be held in the Wardroom at 5.00 pm. People are asked to register (before 31st July 9am) and there is a $10.00 charge which will allow for a free drink on arrival; light food is also included. Why not celebrate (further) at the restaurant afterwards! · Offshore Racing Section AGM – 5th August 2020The AGM for offshore will be held in the FSC State Room at 6:30 pm on Wednesday 5th August. All FSC sailors are welcome. The club is calling for nominations for the committee. Please advise interest to the Sailing Manager. There are a lot of changes afoot both on and off the water which will impact Offshore Racing, so it is important that there is a strong representation of our Committee from across all our participants. Your input and support are welcome.
· Offshore Summer Season Opening / Safety Briefing – 17th September (2 months to go)With the first race of the 2020-2021 summer season getting underway on the 19th of September (The George Law Memorial, Foundation Race), there will be a formal opening for the season in the Bridge at 6.30 pm on Thursday prior. This event will overview the racing for the coming season, highlighting on-water safety issues and other developments that will be of interest to all competing sailors. The importance of and the requirement for the reporting of on-water incidents will be addressed. This is being given greater focus by the Club across all sections and fits with new initiatives in this area being put in place by Australian Sailing. Guidelines will be presented.
· FSC Crew MembershipCrew Membership is now available at FSC. This is quite an attractive option and skippers are encouraged to sign up their crew in the lead-up to the new season. Forms are available from reception and these will need to be signed off annually by skippers for each eligible crew member. Further details are available on the club website or from the Sailing Office. This membership provides insurance for the individual as well as a number of club benefits. Any questions call FSC Membership Coordinator (Liz Sinagra) 9435-8814.
· Safety AuditsSafety audits for the coming season will be conducted in a similar manner to last year. Skippers will need to book through the FSC Sailing Office (call 9435-8817) which will then coordinate the process with a Club auditor. This season there will also be a Club focus on matters not directly addressed in the audits. This will cover issues such as radio performance.
· Coming SeasonMost will be aware that there is a Fremantle to Exmouth Race & Rally scheduled for 8th May 2021. This will be part of Siska and planning for this is well underway. The Yellow Book is in preparation by the new ORWA Inc and should be available before too long. A reminder that all skippers will be encouraged to provide one volunteer over the course of the season to get out and assist the volunteers – perhaps mark laying, on the start boat… Assistance for our team of volunteers and a benefit for the sailors involved.
· Australian Sailing AwardsThe committee has put forward nominations in several categories for the national Australian Sailing Awards. Watch this space. Thank you, Michael Thorpe | Offshore Section Captain --- FSC Offshore Racing Committee 2019/2020
