Dear Friends & Colleagues,
With the fall travel season kicking off next week, I know you are busier than ever. I hope you find time to take care of yourself, and keep up with your good habits. I believe, as many of you do, that success in the workplace and mental/physical health can often go hand in hand.
In this newsletter, we asked 10 women in finance and investing to share advice for staying fit during travel season. Interestingly, there were a number of common themes. Do something everyday, even if it's short. Walk to work, or wherever you can. Mornings are popular - get it over with! Plan your calendar in advance, when it's regular work week or a travel week. Finally, keep it social and find ways to bring friends, clients, neighbors into your routine to build a sense of community.
For those who want to build on good habits (nutition, exercise, mobility, hydration, sleep, lifestyle practices, reflection) this fall, we invite you to join us for the Whole Life Challenge. More details are provided below. Join us, it will be fun!
Finally, we hope your journey this fall will take you to Chicago on October 4-5th to join 300 women in private equity for our 4th Annual Women's Private Equity Conference. The Peninsula Chicago is a gorgeous venue, our agenda is rich and this is shaping up to be our best event yet!
Safe travels this Labor Day weekend and into the fall.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Burton
#2. There is No Perfect Time
"Your schedule is never going to be any less crazy than it is right now. Figure out what works and be as diligent as possible!"
#3. For Travel, Book Ahead
"I don't use travel as an excuse not to work out. If I'm in a major city, I book classes and if not, I go to the gym or workout in my room or even find personal trainers. Booking classes ahead of time where there are cancelation penalties, really forces you to stay fit."
#5. Seek Physical and Mental Wellness
"Golf- a great physical and mental game that requires focus, enables one to enjoy nature, is accessible for a wide range of ages and a great way to build relationships - a lifelong game from which one never stops learning."
#6. Walk To Work (or Whenever You Can)
"Walk whenever you have time; always keep a comfy pair of flats in your tote. (Eat dessert and walk home!)"
#7. Make it a Priority
"Between kids, community involvement, and obviously work, it is too easy to put exercise on the back burner. But if you’re not healthy, you’re not effective in any of the above."
#8. Plan on Sundays
"On Sunday, I find workout windows during the week and put them in my calendar which sometimes means that I may have to skip it on one day but double-up on others. Try to sweat every day, if you can. But if you don’t get it in due to a busy schedule, don’t beat yourself up. Just try to do better the next week."
#9. Do it in Manageable Chunks
"Do it in managable chunks. You really REALLY can find 30 minutes a day. If you have to, take a walking meeting instead of a conference room meeting."
