As we wrap up August, the Georgian Bay Association would like to wish everyone a safe and fun Labour Day long weekend.

Extreme fire ratings may still be in effect in the northern parts of Georgian Bay, but may ease as one moves farther south. Please ensure that you comply with the restrictions in your area.

Update on the Henvey Inlet Key River Fire

The Henvey Inlet Fire is still burning in certain parts, but residents are now allowed back into the area outside of the fire perimeter. Smoke in neighboring towns is starting to subside as well.

We encourage all GBA members to question prospective municipal candidates for the upcoming Ontario municipal elections on their commitment to protecting Georgian Bay, providing the local services that you need and maintaining strong financial controls.

State of the Bay Report is now available

The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve (GBBR) State of the Bay Report is now available. Your association has or will have hard copies available and you can download the report. The GBBR team has reviewed research from the Great Lakes, Lake Huron, and Georgian Bay to provide a summary of environmental conditions in your community.

August 25th Water Levels

All of the Great Lakes remain above their long-term average levels. Lake Michigan-Huron is 2 inches below its level of one year ago. Since the previous month, Lake Michigan-Huron has fallen 2 inches. Over the next 30 days, Lake Michigan-Huron is forecast to fall by 2 inches.
