CONGRATULATIONS, CASSIE

Pictured: Cassie Rowe, MLA for Belmont. Inset: Cassie Rowe joins the FTI Board (2007)

FTI sends its sincere congratulations to all successful candidates in last week's State Election, but reserves a very special congratulations to Cassie Rowe, former FTI Chair and now Member for Belmont.

Cassie first joined the Board of FTI in 2007 for a one-year term, after completing FTI's Screenwriting Diploma the previous year. Since that time, she has served a further two three-year terms, while developing a career as a financial planner.

Cassie resigned from the FTI Board in June 2016, citing the need to focus her energies on the campaign for the seat of Belmont. We are glad to see these efforts have been rewarded, and wish her all the best in her new role as a parliamentarian.

FTI DOCO CLUB - RESCHEDULED WITH NEW VENUE

FTI's third monthly edition of Doco Club  has been postponed to Thursday 23rd of March in order to celebrate a new and exciting partnership with The City of Perth and a new location for FTI's screening events @ The Northbridge Piazza Community Room (Cnr Lake & James Sts).

FTI's Doco club has been running since January 2017 and is a hub for doco enthusiasts, designed to showcase poignant doco's and be a networking  opportunity for the WA doco sector. Screenings are accompanied by Q&A's with the filmmakers with drinks  available at FTI's bargain prices.

To celebrate Doco Club's new location,  FTI has rescheduled the screening of The Burning Season' (2009), written and directed by local environmentalist Cathy Henkel.

This is a feature documentary exploring the palm oil farming industry's annual deliberate lighting of fires that rage across Indonesia, destroying pristine rainforest, endangering orangutans and contributing to climate change.

This powerful documentary exposed the effects of palm oil farming and was key in the start of a worldwide movement to save the orangutans of Indonesia.

Cathy will talk about activism through documentaries and FTI will have beanbags, popcorn and cheap drinks.

When: Thursday 23rd of March |  Where: Northbridge Piazza Community Room

FTI ENROLMENTS

Learn acting techniques for camera and take home a screen test of your scene

ACTING FOR CAMERA weekend course with Dr. Damien Spiccia teaches methods and techniques for being comfortable in front of the camera and shining on screen. Acting for camera is a completely different beast to acting for the stage; subtlety and subtext are the order of the day, and if the actor doesn’t truly believe the lie, the camera will spot it right away.

Enrolments are still available for the Acting for Camera course and we are able to announce that Simon Akkerman ACS has been confirmed as the the guest lecturer for cinematography. This is an outstanding opportunity to hear from a world-class cinematographer.

When: Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th of March |  Time: 11am - 4pm | Price: $150 FTI Members | $200 General Admission | Enrol here.
