It is important for people who have diabetes to learn about their condition. Checking blood sugar levels is one part of learning to live with diabetes as these numbers can inform and support decisions about diet, exercise or medications. First Nations Health Benefits provides coverage for blood glucose test strips. Clients accessing these strips for the first time can activate this coverage with a call to the Health Benefits team at 1-855-550-5454.

World Breastfeeding Week: New Posters Promote Breastfeeding Wellness Teachings

The FNHA has released a series of breastfeeding posters in time for World Breastfeeding Week, which took place Aug. 1 – 7. Sponsored by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, World Breastfeeding Week aims to raise awareness of work carried out year-round to promote, protect and support breastfeeding worldwide. The FNHA endorses this work. Our posters offer an Indigenous perspective on breastfeeding, with messages such as “Breastmilk is the first traditional food” and “Breastmilk flows through our ancestors to our future generations.”
