NSW Health reminds GPs about the importance of effective cold chain management of vaccines

Understanding the drivers of complex trauma to deliver effective primary care

The repeated experience of trauma can result in a broad range of complex and life-long adverse health outcomes, and people who experience complex trauma have greater and interrelated support needs. CESPHN is organising a CPD event to explore some strategies to better support these vulnerable population.

Build your confidence in end of life care with ELDAC

Do you know how to recognise deterioration in your residents? Do you know what evidence based assessment tools can be used to assess palliative symptoms for your residents? End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) is a free, government-funded resource. The Residential Aged Care toolkit connects you with evidence-based tools in palliative care.

 

Active Learning Module in Obesity and Cancer

The Translational Cancer Research Network is offering an Active Learning Module in Obesity and Cancer. The session covers both obesity as a risk factor for cancer and as a complicating factor in the long-term management of cancer survivors. The workshop will be held on Saturday 10 August from 12.30 pm – 6.00 pm at the Central and Eastern Sydney PHN office.

Update on the NSW Prostate Clinical Cancer Registry (PCCR)

The NSW Prostate Clinical Cancer Registry (PCCR) is an opt-out registry and invites eligible men to participate. The PCCR collects demographic details, diagnosis and treatment details, in addition to quality of life and mortality data. GLAD (GP Liaison in Alcohol and other Drug Project)

GLAD is a multidisciplinary team, made up of doctors and nurses providing specialist advice to GPs for chronic and complex AOD issues. For referrals:

POLAR Webinar - Wednesday 10 July 

The next POLAR (Population Level Analysis and Reporting) webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 10 July 2019, 1-2 pm. $100 gift voucher winners announcement!

Thank you to all who completed the CESPHN Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety surveys. Congratulations to the five winners of our $100 gift voucher draw: Mardi Mylrea, Justine Morris, Kaylene Grainger, Isaac Brajtman, and Steve Cohen. CESPHN are now in the process of analysing feedback from the surveys which will be used to inform a CESPHN submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

The GP Psychiatry Support Line is a free service for GPs aimed at helping them manage the care of their mental health consumers. Hundreds of GPs have called 1800 16 17 18 to benefit from psychiatrists providing expert technical advice. To access the service you must take two minutes to register.

Cancer QI-PIP activity: last chance to register

NPS Medicine Wise will be working with practices in the CESPHN region to increase cancer screening participation in practice populations. The project counts as a quality improvement activity for QI PIP.  This will involve practice data audits, cleansing and using the newly developed Cancer Institute NSW Quality Improvement toolkit to implement activities that support cancer prevention. NPS MedicineWise have more than 20 years experience delivering multi-modal education and change programs in general practice. This group is designed to support mothers with postnatal depression and anxiety and their families. Following directly on with the COS–P Group that includes partners the program increases parents’ understanding of their child’s emotional needs that further positively impacts postnatal depression and anxiety.

CPD event: Pharmacotherapy for Alcohol Dependence

This session covers the medications used to manage alcohol detoxification and relapse prevention for alcohol dependent patients. This session is for GPs, practice nurses and other allied health clinicians working in primary care. It will assist them to understand the principles of detoxification, relapse prevention and aftercare for patients with alcohol dependence and will help equip them with the skills to identify, treat and or refer for detoxification, manage relapse prevention and aftercare with their patients in the course of usual consultations.

Tonight: Benzodiazepines Part 1 (held at St Vincent's Clinic)

This is your last chance to register for the Benzodiazepines Part 1 workshop on tonight at St Vincent's Clinic! This event is an ALM which qualifies for 40 Category 1 Points. To qualify for these points you must attend the Benzodiazepines Part 1 AND Part 2 workshop, as well as complete the predisposing and reinforcing activities. If you do not wish to complete the ALM portion you may qualify for Category 2 points which you can self report. Part 2 Benzodiazepines will be held on 23 July. Please check the website for details.
