Basel rises to the glitzy occasion by planting thousands of harbingers of spring and making the exhibition venue sparkle. Stand builders and designers are hard at work inside the halls. In Glashütte, Grossmann's watchmakers are also on the final lap for their presentation of the 2017 debuts. With our latest in-house developments, we again want to underscore our philosophy of pure watchmaking
artistry. Visit us – it's worth your time! You will see and feel, look at and look through, move and be moved. This much in advance: in the coming spring, even well-known timepieces are revealing new looks. Classic: the ATUM EnamelFor the ATUM Enamel, the two-part dial is enamelled in white; the scales and numerals are black except the Roman numeral XII which is blue to match the strap. Enamelled dials were common hallmarks of precious pocket watches and remain very rare features of wristwatches. Connoisseurs appreciate the unique gloss of enamel that cannot be imitated by any lacquering method.
Speciality: 3-band snailingMoritz Grossmann endows its manufacture calibres with 3-band snailing on the ratchet wheel, a significant detail of pure watchmaking artistry. First, the toothing of the ratchet wheel is circumferentially chamfered to endow it with gloss and high contrast against the snailing. The snailing itself is inspired by pattern found in Moritz Grossmann's historic pocket chronometers. True to tradition, it is applied with an iron cup and a newly conceived manufacturing technique. The process requires a very steady hand and perfect acuity. In the assembled calibre, the ratchet wheel reflects inimitable corporeality and stunning looks. Additionally, 3-band snailing produces a fascinating optical illusion: when winding the watch, the rotation is practically imperceptible. The see it, the observer must focus on the teeth.
