What an exciting couple of weeks it's been. Things are really ramping up, we've got our first AX event at Spooky Nook in two weeks, there's RX and a Road Rally on the horizon, and it's car show season -- what more could you ask for? Aside from maybe a cold beverage for these hot days (there's a hidden message, let's see who wins it this month!)
At a personal level, I'm looking forward to seeing all the friends I don't get to catch up with during the winter months; not that I'm anywhere close to catching you on the course anyway, but it's good to see everyone's smiling faces and beautiful cars.

I’m going to cut to the chase. This year hasn’t been an easy one; for the Susquehanna Region or for me personally. I’ve been describing it as a “hardship” year. But the more I think about it, the more I think it’s just experiencing growing pains. I could write for days about growing pains, but I’ll spare you. What I’ll say is, as a region, while the RallyCross program is going strong, we haven’t yet had our first local autocross of the season and we have seen a pretty significant (albeit not totally unexpected) dip in membership numbers. But behind the scenes, the focus of the leaders in this region — those around awhile, and those stepping up now
— is focused sharply on making sure 2020 is the most successful it can be. We’re finding our stride, as it were. For me personally, I’m sure many of you have noticed I’ve been absent from Facebook and somewhat less active in region leadership this year. While I may be a bit less visible, I am no less involved. You can always reach me via email, the website, by call or text, carrier pigeon, smoke signal…
AX Registration Open Registration is now open for our first event at Spooky Nook on August 4th. Come join us at our new venue!
Cars & Cookout Rumor has it one fantastic member has stepped up and is organizing a Cars & Cookout event in the near future. Watch for more details soon!
Looking for a Secretary! We are looking for a member to fill the position of secretary on the region’s executive board. Could it be you? We think it could be!
Our First AX Event at Spooky Nook!
by Chris Brown Two weeks from now, we will have our first event at Spooky Nook Sports Complex. It has been a long time since this region has seen a different autocross venue than the Farm Show Complex, and Hershey Park. With that being said: Spooky Nook has been more than accommodating and is going to offer us luxuries that we've never seen at a venue before! I mean come on, who doesnt want food available on site?! Due to this being our first event at this new venue, we're capping this first event at 80 participants.
Make sure you get yourself registered as soon as possible so you don't miss out on the fun!! Keep your eyes peeled for updates about the event in the upcoming weeks. We hope to see you all there!
Hi gang,
Hope you’re enjoying your summer break! While we’re still a couple of weeks out until our next event at the Farm Show lot, we’re still at work, improving things behind the scenes and ironing out the kinks. The second half of our season is looking to build on everything the first half did, and then some!
If you’ve got a suggestion or want to help out, drop us a line, we’d love to hear your idea: rallycross@scca-susq.com
See you in the dirt!
TURN UP THE PiNK Car ShowBy Adam Moore As some of you may know, one of our regions sponsors, Slow Sally's Stickers & Things puts on the TURN UP THE PiNK car show. The TURN UP THE PiNK car show is a non-profit that donates all proceeds to the Feel Your Boobies Foundation that works to promote proactive breast health to young women through education and outreach programs. 1st

This year, the Susquhanna Region SCCA will be setting up a booth at the 7th annual TURN UP THE PiNK car show and we are looking for 4-6 volunteers to help hand out information, provide knowledge and promote our region for potential members found in the local car community. This is a great opportunity to help our sponsor supporting an important cause. We are looking for 4-6 volunteers who have knowledge of AutoCross, RallyCross, Road Rally, and any other discipline our region supports. So not to over burden people, we are requesting 2-3 people who will be requested to help setup and then man the booth from 8am to noon, and then 2-3 more people to continue to man the booth until 4pm and help clean up. This event is very family friendly, displays 200+ cars, and has some of the
best local food trucks to provide nourishment throughout the day (and in my opinion some of the best food comes from food trucks!) So all the volunteers are encouraged to come for the whole day with their friends and family. Just like our events, spectating is FREE! Just bring cash for the food trucks! Additionally, we would like to display some SCCA cars at the booth, we are looking for 1-3 more cars from any racing discipline, AutoCross, Hill Climb, or RallyCross. If you have a well setup car, and can display it for the whole day please contact us.
The 7th Annual TURN UP THE PiNK car show is Saturday, September 14th this year. I know that is the date of an AutoCross event up at Pocono Raceway, but not everyone will be attending that. Please reach out to myself, Adam Moore if you are interested in providing any volunteer work for this years TURN UP THE PiNK car show booth for our SCCA region.

In Your Own Words: Vincent MelonJULY 15, 2019 — Vincent Melon attended the Tire Rack Time Trials National Tour Presented by Hagerty in Portland. Vincent didn’t grow up in a car family, he wasn’t gifted a route to motorsports – he found his way, starting with working on cars at national chains and growing into his own performance shop. We caught up
with Vincent after the first competition event he’d ever run and here’s what he had to say:
How To Keep Cool On A Hot TrackJUNE 28, 2019 — There’s certainly no shortage of modifications you can make to your car to make it more competitive. Engine upgrades, suspension tuning and performance brakes are among the first changes drivers go to make when fractions of a second can be the difference between a trophy and a quiet drive home.
Time Trials Is For Everyone JUNE 27, 2019 — We've said a lot about how great the Tire Rack Time Trials National Tour Presented by Hagerty is, so instead, we’re letting others help with their own words! We caught up with SCCA autocrosser extraordinaire John Hunter after he left High Plains to find out what he thought of the event
The Slalom in Rally Racing JUNE 25 2019 — From on track to dodging cones to sliding around in the dirt, there is a place for all of us to play! And it’s that last one, sliding around in the dirt, that recently had me flying down the rabbit hole of YouTube videos featuring epic sideways gravel roads and monster air, and then on to the website for DirtFish Rally School.
