We'd like to wish all Southern DHB staff a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. A special mention to all our staff who will continue to work over this period to provide care to those who need it. We look forward to continuing the Southern Future journey in 2017! Thank you SDHB staff! The Southern DHB elves delivered hampers to hard-working and dedicated healthcare teams throughout the district last week. Thank you to all SDHB staff we hope you enjoyed the goodies! Annual Report highlights It so happens that the end of the year is also the time when our annual report (July 2015 - June 2016) is also published. So we'd also like to take this moment to share some highlights from this. Attached is a poster to display in your areas, to provide a snapshot of our performance over the period reported. Thank you to everyone for your contributions. View the poster here.
Above: Paul Winder in the new Education Centre simulation room Passion for health education drives new centrePaul Winder is passionate about his colleagues getting the most hands-on and realistic training they can and Southland Hospital’s new Education Centre is designed to help make that possible. As a member of the Practice Development Unit, and as the hospital’s Resuscitation Service Coordinator, Paul has been an integral part of the project, which officially opened in November.
The new facility includes seminar rooms, skills-training bays, teleconferencing and video conferencing facilities, a purpose-built consultation room, simulation rooms that can be configured like an operating theatre, ICU or Emergency room, and a two bed room in a ward.
Spinners and weavers offer warmth and comfortThe Alexandra Spinner and Weavers Group have partnered with the Central Lakes Mental Health Service, based in Clyde, to provide cosy and comforting items for patients.
Anne says the collaboration reflects the DHB’s values of partnership with the community, Whanaunatanga.

Southern DHB meets immunisation targetA collaborative approach across the whole health sector has proved successful in helping reach the childhood immunisation target this quarter. Congratulations to all those involved whose hard work has meant that 95% of eight month olds in the district are having their primary course of immunisation at six weeks, three months and five months on time, with Maori and Pacific immunisation coverage across the district equal to or better than total population coverage.
The teams focus on every child and ensure that any overdue for immunisations has an individualised plan in place to support the immunisation.
Well done team – you’re helping to make a real difference to the health of our younger population! Patients give thanks to staff We receive a lot of feedback throughout the year from our patients. Here's what some of them had to say about their experiences: Ward 4A Nursing team
