Update: Workplace Stress Less TipsGood things come to those who wait! After our very best intentions we will not be releasing the Stress Less Tips for workplaces in the time-frame we had anticipated. We have made the decision to delay releasing them by a few months to enable us time to fully develop them into a format that you can use and engage with. We appreciate that many of you have contributed to the selection of these and will eagerly be awaiting their use. Be reassured this is a piece of work we are committed to. Sector spotlight - awards, conferences, events, webinars and workshopsMaintaining Your Health During Bushfires - Various SourcesWe have compiled resources from NSW and QLD Health, SafeWork Australia, Australian Network on Disability, and Emerging Minds to help you maintain your health during bushfires. Current bushfire conditions have resulted in very poor air quality. QLD Health recommends affected communities take these actions to protect their health, and every day update this bushfire smoke alert. NSW Health has a webpage dedicated to maintaining health during bushfires, and last week published a media release on mental health help for fire ravaged communities. For those working in hot and/or humid environments, heat stress can be uncomfortable, and even fatal. Here are some great resources: a webpage dedicated to heat stress, a heat stress calculator test, guidance materials and videos. Procedures for fire and other emergencies should always include provisions for the evacuation of people with disability. Disasters and traumatic events are by nature, very stressful and it is normal to feel overwhelmed. However, it is important to remember that even after facing a disaster, most adults and children will cope and recover over time with the right help and support. These resources provide information for a variety of audiences on what to expect and how to support children immediately following a disaster or traumatic event.
Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness Week, 11-17 November 2019 - Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia (PANDA)Last week was Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness Week. The PANDA at Work Toolkit provides a range of free and expert resources for managers and HR professionals to support the mental health of their staff members who are expecting a baby, on parental leave or returning to work after having a baby. Importantly, the resources have been developed in collaboration with parents who have experienced perinatal mental illness.
National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, 11-17 November 2019 - Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF)Last week was also Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. Women and people aged 25-74 years old with a cervix are encouraged to visit their GP and make sure they're up to date with their cervical screening. Learn more about the cervical screening program and download resources here. This year supporters are asked to paint their nails orange "polish for a purpose", with profits enabling ACCF to either fully vaccinate a girl against HPV in a developing country or send a Support Pack to a woman diagnosed with cervical cancer in Australia.
Healthy Lungs Forum, 27 November 2019, Brisbane - WHSQThis full day event welcomes industry experts to the stage to shine a light on the importance of helping protect workers from occupational lung disease. Focusing strongly on asbestos and silica, the program features a diverse mix of industry and safety regulator presentations, case studies and a panel discussion.
Workplace Law Conference, 28 November 2019, Sydney - Legalwise, Discount for WW MembersAt the Workplace Law Conference 2019 a panel of experts will address interpretation and application of the different laws that impact on discrimination and bullying at the workplace. Small Business Campaign, 2 September–30 November 2019 - Beyond BlueThe Beyond Blue Small Business Campaign was designed to raise awareness about the important role that small business advisers (e.g. accountants, bookkeepers, tax agents, industry associations and representative bodies) or family and friends can play in supporting small business owners to improve their mental health. The campaign is running until 30 November 2019 across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, through established stakeholder networks and other digital channels. The main resource can be found here. Wellness Wise™ Practitioner Training Program - Wellness Wise Academy, Discount for WW MembersRegistrations are open for the next round of nationally accredited Wellness Wise™ Practitioner training programs.
