  1. NEW National Vaccine Storage Guidelines ‘Strive for 5’, 3rd edition released - The National Vaccine Storage Guidelines ‘Strive for 5’ third edition is now available along with new supporting resources.
  2.  GPs reminded of their vaccine care obligation  -  General practitioners are being reminded of their obligations to care for vaccines according to national ‘Strive for 5’ guidelines, and the importance of effective cold chain management of vaccines. 
  3. AIR vaccination provider transition from authentication file to PRODA  - Department of Human Services has begun the transition from authentication file to PRODA to access the Australian Immunisation Register site via HPOS.
  4. Are your refugee and humanitarian patients’ vaccinations up to date? - Last week was Refugee week, an opportunity for the whole nation to celebrate the contribution refugees make to our society. All refugee and humanitarian entrants are eligible for free catch up vaccines through the National Immunisation Program.   
  5. Can a person with egg allergy get the 2019 flu vaccine?  - People with egg allergy, including anaphylaxis, can be safely vaccinated with 2019 influenza vaccines in the GP setting. Egg allergy is not a contraindication to receiving the 2019 influenza vaccine. 
  6. No safety issues detected in 2019 influenza vaccine - AusVaxSafety surveillance of the 2019 influenza vaccine safety commenced from 1 April 2019, and no safety issues have been detected.
  7. Children are at increased risk of severe influenza infections  - Vaccinating children can help protect them from influenza, which can cause severe complications and death, even in healthy children with no medical risk factors.
  8. AIR errors are affecting family benefit payments  - Errors in patient vaccine records on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) can affect a child’s school enrolment and family benefit payments. 
  9. Catch-up guide for measles vaccination - NCIRS has developed a catch-up guide to assist Australian immunisation providers with measles vaccination.  
  10. Meningococcal ACWY vaccine for adolescents - Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is available for free through the National Immunisation Program to adolescents aged 14 to 19 years of age from 1 April 2019. 
  11. Rent a fridge during influenza season! - Practices who do not have the capacity to accommodate storage for the extra influenza vaccines during flu season have the option to rent a fridge and data logger for 3 months. 

  12. New resources available! Cold chain breach and anaphylaxis - There are new resources to assist your practice with cold chain breaches and management of anaphylaxis – available on the CESPHN Immunisation website.
