Today's Defence Week leads with a recent Senate hearing into significant redactions made to a recent Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) report on Hawkei, reportedly justified on the grounds of national security and commercial interests. Labour MP Julian Hill raised concerns about the troubling precedent set by a company using Section 37 of the Auditor General Act 1997 to challenge the independence of the ANAO.
In other news, Deputy Editor Nigel Pittaway asks whether a UK Wedgetail buy will truly benefit Australian industry, I visit UNSW's satellite lab to talk space, the first Military International Drone Racing Tournament hints at growing cultures of innovation in the ADF and NZDF, an Australian Industry Group report highlights a shortage of digital skills, Australia's latest icebreaker looks for industry partners, and the RAAF takes delivery of the 10th F-35A.
Lastly, the current house announcements: forms for this year's Top 40 Defence Contractors survey are available now (due Nov 16), as well as Expressions of Interest for next year's Essington Lewis Awards (due Nov 23). Please contact Katherine Ziesing for Top 40 forms and Awards Coordinator Jess Havard for Essington Lewis Awards enquiries.
