Click here Vol 26 No 21 26 Mar 2021 Seachtain na GaeilgeTo celebrate Seachtain Na Gaeilge 2021 pupils from across the school came together to record an album of traditional Irish music which is available to listen to here. There were wonderful solo sean-nós singers, duos, and family groups all showcasing the love for both Irish music and culture that is alive and well in our school. We each recorded our separate parts and the end product was a fantastic mixture of many different types of traditional Irish tunes. Although we were not in school it was a lovely way to celebrate Seachtain Na Gaeilge together and was such fun! HSD Motivate Me!Shane O’Donoghue recently gave an inspiring talk to High School pupils as part of the HSD Motive Me! series. He started by sharing with us his experience of the Olympics and the Olympic village which from his description would make anyone want to go to the Olympics! Then Shane moved on to sharing with us some valuable information about building resilience and the importance of trying. He also helped us with techniques to find our ‘why’ - the reasons why we do the things we do. Shane used an online platform so we could anonymously share our answers to his questions which was an interesting process. I found the talk really inspirational. I would highly recommend watching it along with all the talks in the HSD Motivate Me!

There will be a prize for the winning entry which will be used to illustrate the cover of next year’s HSD journal. You are invited to submit your entries to art@highschool.ie by 16 April. Home Economics CompetitionForm 1, 2, 3, and 4 pupils participated in a fun cooking competition for St Patrick's Day. Pupils were given the challenge to create a dish with an Irish theme. The results were very impressive and the winners will be announced shortly. A prize will be awarded for the best entrant in each year group. Form 1 Religious EducationWe hope that these environmental posters will catch pupils' eyes and show how small changes can have a big impact. We know that it’s hard to completely transform your home and daily lifestyle to make it sustainable and eco-friendly, so these posters should hopefully show how to easily help. This generation has grown up learning about the cause, effects and solutions of global warming. We’re educated and we just need to put it to good use. We know what to do and how to fix it. We just must get the rest of the world to wake up! If everyone thinks “It won’t affect me because I won’t be around when it gets bad” or “but everyone does
it” then nothing will change. We can’t ruin the only liveable planet we have; there isn’t a backup option. We can either act now or never, because sooner than you think it will be too late. You can help by doing small things, for example, always turn off the lights when you leave a room, turn the tap off when not in use, don’t leave too many things plugged in (especially chargers), and if you’re having baths every day try having showers instead. If we all do just one of these things we can make a big difference to the environment and make a better planet for the generations to come. Dates for your Diary
