A Conversation with Roxane Gay
Hosted by Twitter & Girls Write Now
Join Girls Write Now for our first-ever Twitter Spaces event—including live discussion and open Q&A—with esteemed author, activist and friend, Roxane Gay. Celebrate Earth Day with a conversation about the intersection of environmentalism and feminism and how our words have the power to enact real change on both fronts.
Open to the public including all mentees, mentors and alumni across programs.
The Book of Extinct and Endangered Creatures
"This project mines our shared passion for the environment, a subject the two of us bonded over during our first session together. We loved the idea of helping a new generation understand their impact on the world around them while introducing big (and scary!) concepts like climate change, evolution, and extinction."
Mentee Poetry Excerpt from Taking Root
“I thought of the times we had buried her and the times she had clawed her way to the surface. She was forgiving of the soil we’d surrounded her with; she came to us with her tail wagging. Now before she lay down to die, finally, she spoke Hebrew, but all I understood was the lo, lo, lo (no, no, no). I wished my mom was there to translate.” Read this and more stunning poetry, memoir, fiction and essays in the 2022 Girls Write Now Anthology Taking Root (pub date May 10).

What would it feel like to be a leaf falling from a tree? Or a new bud on a branch? Take a seat near a tree and write from its perspective. What has it witnessed? What changes has it undergone? How does it feel about the world around it? Or take five minutes to quietly observe it, then write a poem or short essay about the tree and what you noticed.
Hungry for more eco-writing? Join us this week for two Earth Day events with Twitter on April 20 & April 21!
