EUROCAE launches the new WG-111 on A-CDM

26 February 2019, Saint-Denis

Based on the EUROCAE Technical Work Programme 2019 the Council approved the creation of a new Working Group (WG) to cover the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) topic.

10 years ago EUROCAE published its first standard on A-CDM, which was developed by the WG-69.

Since then EUROCONTROL and the A-CDM community continued to update A-CDM procedures and system features. EUROCONTROL published further guidance material and released several updates of the A-CDM Implementation Manual (currently Version 5.0, 31 March 2017).

In addition, in the context of establishing a system wide information exchange, A-CDM services were found by EUROCAE WG-104 to be a potential candidate that is ready for interface specification. A SWIM A-CDM service should define the interoperability between the ATM and airport domains.

This functional evolution of A-CDM as well as requirements derived

from the PCP or other domains with close connection to A-CDM (such as A-SMGCS with regard to dynamic taxi times) determined EUROCAE to trigger the update of the existing ED’s on A-CDM.

The objective of the WG is to develop the following documents:

  • ED-141A Minimum Technical Specifications for A-CDM Systems - Q4/2020
  • ED-145A A-CDM Interface Specification, include SWIM interface description -Q4/2020
  • ED-146A Guidelines for Test and Validation Related to A-CDM Interoperability - Q4/2020
  • A-CDM SWIM Service Performance Specification - Q4/2021

A Call for Participation (CfP) will be launched shortly to get the right expertise to work on the deliverables.

European aviation organisations team up for the 2019 World ATM Congress

“Europe for Aviation” is the theme around which European aviation organisations working to implement the Single European Sky (SES) will gather at this year’s World ATM Congress, from 12 to 14 March in Madrid, Spain.

Strong collaboration between European aviation organisations (civil and military) is proving key to generating growth for the industry and to meeting the passenger demand for safer, smarter, greener and more seamless air travel, in line with the EU Aviation Strategy. Over the course of the 3-day Congress, these organisations will come together to show how through collaboration they can go much further in tackling pressing challenges, such as air traffic delays and congestion, drone integration, digital transformation and cyber security.

The “Europe for Aviation” stand and theatre (#849 and #1151) will host a wide range of debates, presentations and guided walking tours, illustrating the collaboration in action between European aviation organisations working to implement SES, namely the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU), SESAR Deployment Manager (SESAR DM), European Aviation Safety Agency, European Defence Agency, Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), and EUROCAE. In doing so, the organisations will show how between them they cover the

full project management cycle from policy and funding to research and deployment.

Look out and meet us at:

  • Single European Sky Awards ceremony (#SESAwards) followed by a networking drink (12 March, 17:00).
  • Panel debate sessions on the looming capacity crunch, global interoperability, civil-military collaboration, standardisation, and the future of the Single European Sky.
  • Technical sessions on U-space and drone integration, communications navigation and surveillance (CNS), datalink services implementation, digital transformation and cybersecurity.
  • A series of SESAR walking tours on the latest technological advances underway by SESAR partners, and their status in terms of research and development, and deployment.
  • Dedicated stand for networking with SES partners, featuring interactive and virtual reality experiences.

WG-105 kicks off new activities

13-14 February 2019, Saint-Denis

Upon approval by the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on 16th January 2019, WG-105 recently launched 4 new activities, added to its updated Terms of Reference (ToR) to further support safe integration of UAS in all airspaces.

The kick off meeting was held at EUROCAE, St Denis on the 13 and 14 February where more than 20 experts from WG-105, including a few new comers, attended the 2-day meeting organised by WG-105 leadership and EUROCAE staff.

Through joint sessions and specific breakout sessions, the participants were introduced to WG-105, its specificity, objectives and organisation, and were able to refine a detailed work programme for each activity:

  • An internal report on Safe Design standards (“Safe-D”) for UAS in Specific Operations category, expected by Q3/2019 from Sub-Group 61;
  • A guidance document on the use of multi-GNSS (“GNSS”) for UAS, expected by Q4/2019 from Sub-Group 62;
  • A guidance document on UAS Automatic Flight Envelope Protection from human errors (“Autoprot.”), expected by Q4/2019 from Sub-Group 63;
  • A Guidance document on generic FHA for UAS, expected by Q4/2019 from Sub-Group 41.

These activities will be performed by the related Sub-Groups (SG) of the Focus Teams (FT) on Design & Airworthiness (D&AW) and on Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA). EUROCAE deliverables are expected in time to support implementation of Specific Operations for drones and provide guidance material to EASA for regulations on certified drones.

Even if solid plans for each SG were successfully refined to achieve these objectives, WG-105 would welcome additional active participation from experts in these areas. If you are interested to contribute to one or more deliverables please contact Sergiu Marzac, TPM, at
sergiu.marzac@eurocae.net or Alain Vallee, UAS Technical Expert at alain.vallee@eurocae.net.

EUROCAE at the Avionics Expo 2019

Avionics Expo is a leading exhibition and conference event for both the commercial and defence sectors, fixed wing and rotorcraft.

The event will feature all aviation stakeholders and will address topics from: trends in Communication, Navigation and Surveillance to GNSS strategy, Innovation or Cyber security and Big data.

EUROCAE will take part at this year's
Avionics Expo in March and will be sharing a stand with EUROCONTROL.

EUROCAE will moderate the session on certification and take part to the Cyber security panel to present the work programme of WG-72 and other cyber related activities.

Please come over and join us for a chat on standards and other EUROCAE activities!

Aviation Software Standards

With airborne and ground-based aviation systems increasingly interconnected, the landscape for critical systems software is changing.

Whether you are an ANSP specifying or accepting a system, the person responsible for system maintenance, or a supplier at the cutting edge of software product development, you will need to understand the standards options available to you, how to apply them, and the impact on costs.

Join our next training session of Aviation Software Standards based on your availability and experience a practical and interactive approach to the subject matter, drawing on the trainers’ extensive experience in both aviation safety and critical systems software development.

The course outline is available here.
