Kid's Korner : Give the Gift of Literacy Believe it or not, the holidays are upon us! What better gift can you give someone than literacy? The library has a wide range of resources geared to growing readers, including easy books for children learning to read on their own, books on CD and eAudiobooks for those who want to listen along with a book, ESL dual-language books for kids honing their English, and graphic novels for those who excel when pictures compliment the text. Here are some other literacy resources you may not be familiar with: 2. First chapter book series. Look for books in the 'Branches', 'Stepping Stones', and 'Orca Echoes' series. These books are specially designed to be a child’s first foray into more complex stories that they can read on their own. 3. Bob Books. These are very simple, easy books for the youngest of readers and are great for inspiring reading success and word recognition. They’re very small, but they work! 4. French collection. The main library children’s department has a great French collection that includes graphic novels, magazines, board books, teen items, plus DVDs and books on CD. 5. Non-Fiction. Some kids just can’t get into fictional narratives. If this is the case, make a point to browse our non-fiction collection where you’ll find books on all topics under the sun! Guelph Tool Library Repair Cafe BONUS: Included with this Repair Café is a festive recipe swap. If you bring a favorite recipe, you can get another to take home.
