Cycling Sportive Events
If you can't make Pedal for Scotland in September or if you want to gain even more cyclosportive experience, there are a number of events taking place in August that may be of interest:
Tesco Bank Tour O The Borders
A classic closed road sportive (120km or 88km) in the stunning scenery of the Scottish Borders on Sunday 7th August 2016. The ride starts in Peebles and entry costs £60.

Pedal for Parkinsons
The organisers invite you to take part in Pedal for Parkinson’s in Stirling on Sunday 7th August to have fun, get fit – and make a difference for people with Parkinson’s.
With a choice of a 20 mile blast, 40 mile blaze or 60 mile burn routes though central Scotland’s beautiful countryside, there’s a distance to suit everyone.
There’s no minimum sponsorship but each cyclist is asked to try to raise at least £100.
Visit the website for more information.
Ride Arran
Ride Arran takes place on Saturday 13th August and aims to raise funds for Finding Your Feet, a registered charity supporting people affected by amputation and limb deficiency.
Entrants are encouraged to undertake sponsorship, raising a minimum of £150 for individuals or £100 per person if you are part of a team. Everyone who raises their minimum will also receive a special FYF Cycling Jersey.
More information can be found here.
The Flying Scotsman Sportive
On Saturday 20th August the 2016 Flying Scotsman Sportive offers cyclists an excellent cycling experience on mostly rural roads. All you will need is a well maintained bike and some good preparation to be sure you can complete this challenging sportive.
The Flying Scotsman Sportive is not a closed road event and the routes have been chosen by Graeme Obree. Old Faithful is a 42 mile blast out to the scenic village of Sorn and back. The Beastie - which takes in 77 miles of spectacular and scenic roads across East Ayrshire and South Lanrakshire is, let's just say, appropriatley titled!!
Visit Graeme Obree's website for more information.
Round Strathaven 50 and 15 Charity Cycle Events
The RS50 is a challenging, fun cycle run ideal for both leisure and club cyclists following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapleton and Auldhouse. Entry cost is £20 per rider.
There is also the alternative and equally popular RS15, a 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worth-while challenge and is ideal for families with younger children. Both events are held on open public roads on Sunday 21st August.
As the event is organised by volunteers and costs are minimised this ensures that almost all the entry fee goes to charity. Participants may choose donate more via an increased entry fee or to raise additional funds for the Charities through sponsorship (sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website).

Moscow to Houston Cycle
This 35 mile ride from Moscow in Ayrshire to Houston in Renfrewshire on Sunday 21st August is on cycle paths for most of the journey so it’s a really great ride for all cycling abilities.
Registration costs £25 and each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £150. If you can pledge to raise £300 or more, your registration fee will be free.
All finishers will be rewarded with a free burger and a well deserved drink at the finish line. You can also book transport for you and your bike back to the start line to collect your car at a cost of £20 per person.
