Road Status Updates NEED TO KNOW: ROAD CLOSURE UPDATES As part of keeping you updated on travel in our region, we’re sharing a reminder about one previously advised road closure, along with details of another upcoming closure in Hauraki Coromandel. To help minimise disruption, we’ve provided details below on the closures, including timing, alternative routes, and tips to ensure visitors can continue to enjoy smooth journeys throughout the region. Please share this information with your teams and guests so they can plan ahead with confidence. Thames Coast Road closure for Boundary Creek Bridge repairsWednesday 29 October for 7 days. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi NZTA has confirmed work will begin on Wednesday 29 October to replace the deck on the Boundary Creek Bridge on SH25, Thames Coast. The road will close for one week to allow construction. The project will deliver a safer two-lane bridge and a slow-traffic passing bay on the southern approach, ready well before the busy summer holiday season. Find out more Destination Hauraki Coromandel and NZTA will be sharing the following message, and encourage you to share the same: A section of SH25 between Te Mata and Waikawau will be fully closed for 7 days and nights in October, but it’s business as usual across the rest of Hauraki Coromandel. You can still reach all our destinations; it may just take a little extra time. ✅ For travel north to Coromandel Town, Colville and beyond: use SH25A over the Kopu-Hikuai, then continue via Tairua and Whitianga. SH25a Kōpū Hikuai RoadMonday 10 November - Friday 21 November 8am- 5pm Mon to Sat.From Monday 10 November to Friday 21 November, SH25A between Kōpū and Hikuai will be closed daily from 8am–5pm, Monday to Saturday, for essential maintenance. The road will reopen each evening under single-lane stop/go and on Sunday 16 November. During the day, only critical services such as emergency responders and school buses will be escorted through; all other vehicles will need to use alternative routes via SH25 or SH2, adding about an hour to travel time. This work is vital for safety and resilience, and while some delays are expected, they are scheduled to be completed ahead of the busy summer period. Find out more DHC and NZTA will be sharing the following message, and encourage you to share the same: SH25a (Kōpū Hikuai Road) will be closed during the day for two weeks during November, but it’s business as usual across the rest of Hauraki Coromandel. You can still reach all our destinations; it may just take a little extra time. ✅ Access will be possible, albeit a slightly longer route, via either SH2 through the Karangahake gorge or around SH25 via Coromandel Town.
