Winter 2016 Newsletter

A warm hello from the freezing vineyard. Well - not quite... but we have had some -0.2 degree starts to the day.

Here is a collection of happenings around the vineyard.

  • Vineyard Ventures.
  • Speaking of Red, Red Wine!
  • Pressing Matters is still travelling....
  • We love feedback.

Vineyard Ventures

Matt is underway with the pruning but prior to that we had the barrel pruner in for the day to make his job easier.  To date Matt has pruned 500 of the 30,000 vines. Fortunately he has some company and assistance, other than Jasper his dog, to keep him sane.

If you follow our Facebook page - Matt has sent a video request for songs to help him along - click here to watch and add your suggestion. Some previous suggestions included: The First Cut is the Deepest; I Heard it on the Grapevine and Red, Red Wine.

Oh what a tangled web they weave..... Prior to barrel or final hand pruning the vines look like this.

Completing the barrel pruning took 7 and a 1/2 hours of solid work by Ian Roberts of Riversdale Estate in his massive barrel pruning machine.

Neat and orderly once pruned and tied down. This is how the vines will look by the end of August (Matt hopes) - although the spider may have moved on.

Speaking of Red, Red Wine........

As mentioned in our last newsletter the 2013 Pinot Noir is now ready to launch.

Just for fun I am running a competition - the first three newsletter and facebook respondents who tell me what's different about this bottle of Pinot Noir, will win a bottle. Obviously we don't have "smellagram" or "tasteagram".  Hope that helps!

Thanks Matt for taking such a pretty shot.

Additionally, we are also launching the 2015 Riesling R69 - a perfect accompaniment to a warming winter curry.

If you are not one of the lucky Pinot Noir winners you can find it, and the rest of our range, on our website shop, or email or call me on 03 6268 1947 for your wine requirements.

Pressing Matters is still travelling!

Last newsletter we talked about the London and LA travels of our wine.  We were very excited this week to have a group of taster's find us courtesy of the current Virgin In-flight magazine which contains an article by Sue Dyson and Roger McShane on tempting treats in Hobart.  Here's a link to the article....Local's Guide - Hobart.

We love feedback...

...and have been fortunate to receive some lovely comments on our small and rustic tasting room as well as our wines. Recently Mark, from Hobart, a Wine Club member sent some great feedback on the 2006 Riesling R9.

"This is arguably the best bottle of white wine I have ever had...Many thanks for the quality of wines in your club selections. I wanted the bottle to never end, but alas it evaporated. That 2006 R9 will be the bottle against which all my future Rieslings are judged."

The 2006 R9 garnered the 6 Nations Wine ChallengeTrophies for Best Riesling and Best White Wine in 2013 and 96 points from James Halliday.  It's wonderful to see it ageing so well.

Thanks also to Anna, from Melbourne, who baked the Rhurbarb cake from last newsletter and found it "delicious."

Just a reminder that the Pressing Matters' webpage has a pop-up Tasting Booking system and a Trip Advisor link.  If you wish to visit the vineyard, or have visited recently, we would love your feedback or comments through any of these methods.

We look forward to seeing you at the vineyard or jumping into your Inbox again with the next Spring Newsletter.

Cheers for now,

Michelle
