Measles alert
NSW Health is urging people who visited the Sydney CBD and Leichhardt from 15-19 July to be aware of the symptoms of measles after an infected tourist visited these areas. Measles remains common in many parts of the world, hence it is vital that all children and adults receive two doses of measles vaccine to protect them from this highly infectious virus. Sydney Children’s Hospital Network is seeking EOIs for a representative to join the Asthma Follow Up Project. The representative will provide expert advice and input into the development and implementation of the Asthma Follow up Project. Education opportunity - Stepped Care and eMH in General Practice
In partnership with the Black Dog Institute, we will be hosting three workshops across our region on Stepped Care and eMH in General Practice. In the two hour workshop participants will be introduced to the concept of stepped care in mental health, specifically in the context of the way mental health problems present and are managed in primary care. The history and thinking behind the development of the stepped care model will be discussed, as well as the advantages of the approach for the patient and the mental health system generally. The Sutherland Hospital Eye Clinic - Information for referrers
The Sutherland Hospital is pleased to inform you of the expansion of the ophthalmology outpatient service at the hospital, to improve access to public ophthalmology care for patients of the Sutherland Shire. The expanded clinic includes additional consulting space, a range of new diagnostic equipment and additional staffing. The improvements in the service will allow the introduction of a Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service at the hospital, in addition to the current services comprising cataract surgery, emergency assessments and hospital in-patient consultations. Future expansion will depend on the availability of resources.

STIs and HIV: Everybody's Business
The session will examine the critical role of GPs in testing and treating STIs and HIV. It will use interactive methods to explore STI/ HIV testing as part of routine care, demonstrate how to use STI/ HIV clinical tools and the steps required if a test returns positive. This Friday is World Hepatitis Day 2017
With the availability of effective vaccines and treatments for hepatitis B and a cure for hepatitis C, the elimination of viral hepatitis is achievable and this is the theme of World Hepatitis Day 2017, to be held 28 July. With close to half a million Australians living with chronic hepatitis B and C, it is likely there is someone who attends your practice living with hepatitis. It is vital for primary care providers to know the risk factors, test and diagnose people living with hepatitis, to enable treatment to start early enough to halt serious liver damage.
