Click here Vol 23 No 18 26 January 2018 Leinster Junior League VictoryCongratulations to all members of The High School Junior A hockey team who defeated St Andrew's College 4-1 to retain the Leinster Hockey Association Schoolboys Junior League trophy. Despite a tough 15 minutes at the start with the opposition taking the lead, The High School side took advantage of an error by their defence to equalise with a reverse stick shot by Evan Jennings. By the end of the first half we were ahead 2-1 following a goal scored by Harry Lynch. The second half was dominated by The High School as we scored another two goals courtesy of Harry Lynch and Ciaran Adair bringing the score to 4-1. Our opponents started to get into the game in the last 15 minutes but were unable to score despite being awarded four short corners in quick succession. The
game ended with a comprehensive victory for The High School team whose experience and composure under pressure was much in evidence. We warmly congratulate the team on the significance of its achievements in 2017-18 and wish all members of the squad every success in future competitions. Dublin Senior Badminton ChampionsCongratulations to The High School Senior Boys' Badminton team who defeated Sandford Park School to win the Dublin Schools U19 Badminton league championship. We wish our pupils every success in the next rounds of the provincial competition. Form 4 Cultural TripOn Wednesday 17 January, all Form 4 pupils met at The National Museum in Collins Barracks at 10.00 am. On arrival we were put into groups for the tour. We were given information booklets to complete as we walked around the museum. We took some photographs and dressed-up as soldiers from WWI! Then we were given an hour to get back to the Archaeology branch of the National Museum on Kildare Street. There we saw some bog bodies and interesting artefacts from different periods in history. It was very interesting to see these ancient objects in real life. The trip was a great success and I think it is safe to say that everyone enjoyed it! Argentinian School VisitLast Friday The High School enjoyed a visit from a touring Argentinian school St Hilda's College. Pupils from both schools spent the afternoon playing music and sport together, which involved hockey and rugby matches as well as performances by their choir and both orchestras. The highlight of the day by all accounts was the impromptu tango lessons in The Reynolds Hall. We wish our friends a safe and pleasant journey as they continue on the next leg of their European tour. Home Thoughts From AbroadHere's one mum's experience of sport at The High School, taken from her online diary. One of the BEST benefits of moving abroad that we never even considered are the sports teams that the kids have joined. All three are immersed in Irish sports and loving their time on the pitch! Today, Billy had a rugby match and as I walked up to the pitch, I was convinced I must be watching a Form 3 match and not a Form 1 one. Man, were these lads huge! As I got closer, I saw that our tiny but tough 12-year old was literally hanging onto a lad who was the size of an adult and tackling him to the ground. The layers of mud, the black-n-blue marks from boots and bodies covering his legs and torso, combined with the battle stories in the car make every moment of his rugby experience absolutely priceless! The friendships he has forged with his lads on the pitch will last a
lifetime. Maybe we’ll just have to start a rugby club back in Maryland next year . . . who’s in?? One Act Theatre VisitOn Wednesday night the One Act Play group went to the Abbey Theatre to see 'Let the Right One in'. It was a great play and all of the group left with big hopes for our own forthcoming drama production. It inspired and enthused us - now we know just what is achievable on a stage beneath the spot lights. It was a very memorabe evening.
