UOW's World Rankings Subjects Success
 

UOW has enjoyed rankings success on the global stage with the official release of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Measured against the world’s universities, UOW has recorded 19 rankings from a total of 33 subject fields in which UOW was eligible to be rated. The sixth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released in March on TopUniversities.com, features a record-breaking 42 disciplines, making it the largest-ever ranking of its kind.

AUSTRALIA'S TOP-RATED PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN QILT
 

The Australian Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) is an Government website which compares the study experience and employment outcomes across Austalian higher education institutions.UOW has achieved the highest rank for Australian public universities in 8 key categories, and outperforms all Australian universities to score the highest rating in QILT's Skill Scale. This ranking is based on our students' confidence in their problem-solving, analytical and teamwork skills.

New database makes it easier to explore world-class research, search for a supervisor and connect with experts.
UOW Scholars provides a comprehensive and integrated view of the University’s expertise, allowing individual staff members an intuitive interface to share their achievements and life’s work, as well as providing a space where potential Higher Degree Research (HDR) students can search for a supervisor.

Graduates Celebrate in South-east Asia
 

UOW students were recognised for their achievements at recent graduation ceremonies in Singapore and Malaysia. Over two weeks in April, more than 700 students participated in graduation ceremonies in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The ceremonies were held in collaboration with UOW’s transnational education partners in each location.

International team of researchers find 700,000-year-old hobbit remains
 

In a remarkable new discovery, an international team of researchers has uncovered the fossilised remains of ancient hominins in Indonesia, which appear to be the ancestors of Homo floresiensis, the tiny species of human, affectionately dubbed the ‘Hobbit’, that stood at just one metre tall. The UOW team excavated a lower right jaw fragment and six teeth from at least one adult and two children from layers of sedimentary rock at a site named Mata Menge on the Indonesian island of Flores.

Welcome to Wollongong
 

The University of Wollongong holds an annual welcome event to the City of Wollongong for the 2700 international students who commence their studies at UOW's Australian campuses each year. Managed by the Illawarra Committee for International Students, a non-profit community organisation funded by the University of Wollongong, Welcome to Wollongong is the peak event in the Committee’s annual calendar, designed to integrate international students into life in Wollongong, make friends and interact with members of the local Illawarra community.
The Committee is run by volunteers, many of whom are local community members as well as current international students.
Hundreds of newcomers gathered at the University Hall on Thursday 17 March. Students, staff and their families were treated to a performance by students from UOW, experienced Australian cuisine and learned about the Clubs and Societies and International Student Programs on offer to help them settle in to life at UOW. The commencing students were officially welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Wollongong as well as members of the University’s Senior Executive
