ANN'S CHURCH FOR THE BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVALWas so nice to perform with my mom at St. Ann's in Brooklyn Heights to launch her new book, Devotion, and to open the Brooklyn Book Festival. It is such a beautiful space to be in, and so wonderful to play music in and listen to readings. Thank you also to Ambrose for playing guitar with us. You can get her new book here and she is also doing a book signing tomorrow in Barnes and Noble at Union Square at 7pm! SEPTEMBER 10 - RECORDING AT FIGURE 8 WITH NANACO SATOI am so happy and excited that on September 8 and 10 I was invited to record vocals and piano with the beautiful singer and artist, Nanaco Sato, who is visiting from Japan to record her new album! Becky also came by to record a song on cello, and the day turned spontaneously into an improvised session of 7 new pieces. We can't wait to share these sounds with you ! Thank you to Phil Weinrobe for engineering and producing! SEPTEMBER 9 - STREET NAMING FOR CHRISTINE ZOUNEKThis month we gathered in Greenpoint at the corner of Milton and Manhattan to unveil the co-naming of the street to our dear and beautiful beloved Christine. She was a a longtime resident of Milton street, and ran the soup kitchen at the Greenpoint Reformed Church that fed, helped, and healed so many people over the years in the neighborhood. She was so incredibly generous, selflessly kind, and she is in our hearts every day. Christine's mother Fran pulled the string that unveiled the sign. It was a special, sunny, beautiful morning. If you knew Christine, or even if you never met her, say hello to the sign next time you are in that area. Keep in touch on Facebook, Twitter, and InstagramFor news on climate action please also follow 350.org and Bill Mckibben :) September has had some incredible moments so far -- so much music and celebration, productivity, positivity, and moving forward. We saw U2 play in Detroit at Ford Field and my mom joined onstage for one song, recorded and collaborated with friends, spent time with family, went to the Jim Henson exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image(definitely recommend this!), rode on a clipper ship into the sunset, saw all kinds of music, tried new kinds of food, and did our work every day. Pathway to Paris is so excited about the 1000 Cities Initiative, about Joan Baez joining for the event, and about continuing to work every day to turn the Paris Agreement into action. We are proud of my mom and her new book, and excited for so many beautiful things that are on the way. The world is filled with such dark and tragic days, so much disappointment, struggle, and corruption. Let's do our best to motivate each other to see the beauty that exists, comfort and help each other during difficult times, fight against the wrongdoings, and to push for real, innovative, creative, courageous solutions to problems and turn them into action. |
