A Warm Welcome

The GBA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rupert Kindersley as Executive Director of the Association. Rupert started in his new role on April 15th and John McMullen has kindly taken over as President for the next year.

Fisheries Act Amendments

Bill C-68 has been drafted and the First Reading referred to the standing committee on Fisheries and Oceans. GBA is in the process of reviewing this welcome piece of legislation, which will strengthen the Fisheries Act and is generally beneficial to the protection of fish habitat etc. in Georgian Bay.

Boost in Budget for Great Lakes

The U.S. House and Senate have passed the fiscal year 2018 budget. The budget will now head to the White House to be signed by the president and contains strong funding for core Great Lakes restoration priorities.

Updates on government regulations on flares for power boats could affect you. Be sure you are in the know for the upcoming boating season.

Blacklegged Ticks Found in Bay Area

Blacklegged ticks, which may transmit Lyme disease, were found in Awenda Provincial Park in 2017. Sampling was conducted in the park.  The sampled ticks did not test positive for Lyme Disease, but the presence of blacklegged ticks indicates an increased risk of contracting this dangerous disease.

Water Levels

Get your latest water level updates here.

Water levels in Michigan-Huron are 7 inches higher than one year ago.

The US Army Corps of Engineers predict that levels are expected to increase 3 inches over the next 30 days.
