Semester 2 dates
23 July – 21 Oct.
University Non-Teaching Week
24 – 30 Sept. You will not have classes scheduled during this week.
Examination period
29 Oct – 16 Nov. Students need to make sure they are available for the entire examination period.
Results release date
30 Nov.
Special/Supplementary Examination Period
6 – 13 Dec. If awarded a special/supplementary exam, students are required to ensure they are in Melbourne and available to sit their exams.
Employability Week 6 – 10 August
It’s never too early to start thinking about your employability skills, your goals and future. Employability Week is a week-long event featuring a range of sessions, workshops and resources to help boost your employability. More info here.
Science Festival
Science Festival is a week-long celebration of scientific knowledge, innovation and progress with a series of free events and activities for both students and the public. 13-17 Aug. More info here.
Careers Outside the Lab: Where Science and Law meet
On Tues 7 Aug, The Faculty of Science and Melbourne Law School are offering students an exciting opportunity to hear from panellists who have articulated from the Bachelor of Science into the Juris Doctor. Graduates with this unique combination of skills are in high demand and we want to offer you the opportunity to hear what this path has to offer! A free pizza lunch will be offered to all attendees. Science 101: Rebooted
Science 101 - Rebooted is an opportunity to meet up with fellow first year Bachelor of Science students and make new friends! Science Delivery
The Science Delivery program is aimed at increasing the participation of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds in STEM. Current university students who have come from financially disadvantaged or rural backgrounds are recruited and trained as volunteer science presenters, developing their communication, teamwork and project development skills. Science Delivery will be happening again in Semester 2 and applications are now open. More info here.
Job Ready
Do you have the skills you need to get the job you want? Job Ready will develop your communications skills and enhance your employability, so you’ll stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs! This 8-week program (1hr/week) is designed specifically for STEM students and covers topics including Job Search 101, Public Speaking, Clear Writing & Editing, and How to be Successful in Interviews. Human behaviour in bushfires – European Union and Australian knowledge exchange project
As part of the EU research project called GEO-SAFE we are collaborating with Australian partners and looking for people to take part in our research about human behaviour in bushfires. First child assisted with oxygen from FREO2 life-saving low pressure oxygen store in Uganda
The FREO2 low pressure oxygen system is live and has assisted a child in Mbarara, Uganda for the first time. Designed by a team from the University of Melbourne, the FREO2 low pressure oxygen store (LPOS) is a low cost, low maintenance and electricity-free oxygen concentrator designed to combat pneumonia in developing countries.
