State of the Region Breakfast Celebrates Collective Strength

Regional collaboration took center stage at ARC’s State of the Region breakfast, where more than 1,200 elected, business and civic leaders came together to celebrate metro Atlanta’s collective strength.  

Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO of CivicAction, delivered the keynote address, challenging the audience with real-world examples from the Greater Toronto area showing how collaboration across sectors and political boundaries can yield successful results.

ARC Executive Director Doug Hooker presented the annual State of the Region message, recognizing many of the transformative, collaborative efforts taking place across the region.

The featured video at the event looked at metro Atlanta through the eyes of ARC's Millennial Advisory Panel.

Also during the breakfast: 

  • ARC released results from the third Metro Atlanta Speaks public opinion poll. 
  • Developments of Excellence Awards were presented. 
  • Bill Bolling, founder of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, received the Harry West Visionary Regional Leadership Award. 
  • ARC’s Millennial Advisory Panel challenged attendees, and the public, to host or attend a Civic Dinner and join in conversations that will lead our region forward.

Developments of Excellence Awards Recognize Game-Changing Developments

Ponce City Market


ARC’s 17th annual Developments of Excellence awards honored three developments and one great place at ARC's State of the Region Breakfast. The awards celebrate projects that exemplify cutting-edge, livable design that enhances the surrounding community and makes the Atlanta region a better place to live, work and play.

Ponce City Market and Jamestown properties won the 2015 Development of Excellence award for its $200 million makeover of the Sears building in the Old Fourth Ward. The project was recognized for the way it retained the historic building’s original character while it transformed the site into a 21st century hub of work, entertainment and living space that has become an economic and cultural catalyst for the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood and the City of Atlanta.

Awards also went to:

  • Revival on Main (South City Partners, City of Kennesaw, Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority and Cobb County) won the 2015 LCI Achievement Award.
  • Inman Quarter (JPX Works, South City Partners, ELV Associates and Smith Dalia Architects) won the 2015 Exceptional Merit Award for Context-Sensitive Urban Infill Development.
  • Marietta Square (City of Marietta) won the 2015 Great Place Award.

New at ARC

Now Accepting Applications for Livable Centers Initiative Grants
ARC’s Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a grant program that encourages local jurisdictions to plan and implement strategies that link transportation improvements with land use development to create sustainable, livable communities. The program is accepting applications for New LCI Studies and LCI Plan Updates and Supplemental Studies now through Dec. 7.

ARC Active Counts
ARC collects active transportation data to monitor and evaluate regional trends for walking and bicycling. Check out this new mapping tool for gathering bicycle and pedestrian counts. Learn more about ARC’s Active Transportation Counting Program.
