Optimising health prior to pregnancy
Almost half of mothers are overweight or obese at their first antenatal visit. While talking about body weight is a very sensitive issue for many women, it is essential to discuss important benefits for the mother and her baby of being a healthy weight before pregnancy and provide information about the appropriate amount of weight gain during pregnancy. By reaching a healthy weight prior to pregnancy, a woman is protecting her health and baby’s wellbeing.

Tresillian Postnatal Depression and Circle of Security Parenting Groups
Tresillian will be facilitating a FREE Sequential Postnatal Depression and Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) Group designed to support mothers with postnatal depression (PND) and anxiety and their families. The program will run for 12 weeks which include eight two-hour core PND group sessions, followed by four four-hour COS-P group sessions.

Circle of Security Parenting Group in Botany 
Lilly Pilly Counselling is running a FREE eight week Circle of Security Parenting program that is suitable for parents and caregivers of children aged 0-7 years of age. Free childcare is provided.

When: Eight weeks on Tuesday mornings (with a break in the school holidays)
1 May – 19 June 2018, 10.30 am-12.30 pm
Where: Botany Family and Children’s Centre, 13 Banksia St, Botany

Referrals can be made by completing the attached Group Registration Form through CESPHN Psychological Support Service (PSS).

COPE (Centre of Perinatal Excellence) new online training - Perinatal Mental Health
COPE has released a new Basic Skills in Perinatal Mental Health online training program for health professionals. This FREE accredited training program supports health professionals to implement best practice, as informed by the 2017 National Perinatal Mental Health Guideline. 
Visit COPE’s dedicated training website to review an outline of the course, watch a video preview and enrol for free. Completion of the course accrue CPD points.

 

Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)  Prevention: Pregnant and post partum women
Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of maternal deaths in the developed world accounting for 3.2 per cent of maternal deaths worldwide and 9.5 per cent of maternal deaths in Australia. While the risk of VTE has been found to be greater during the post-partum than the antenatal period, many VTEs still occur in the first trimester .
