The theme for April is time. It's fickle, it's fleeting, it flies, there's never enough of it. One of my (perhaps most) favorite lines is from a Gary Jules song called Jeremiah Weed: "I've tried killing time but it won't sit still."

This month's newsletter will be far less text heavy than March. However, it will be a little more philosophical. So take a few minutes, open your mind and join me.

Timing Is Everything

Keep an eye on the Leon Unity YouTube channel for updates about My Life As A Video Game. If you missed any episodes you can find them all right there!

I recently began pre-production on a film with a brilliant TV writer from Montreal. Canadians in New York banding together! It will be a very stylistic, experimental film that will hopefully leave viewers with a healthy mix of clarity about life and questions about our purpose here. Updates to come.

This business is a lot about being in the right place at the right time. However, I think we have more control than we realize. There are so many mixed opinions about luck and its role in getting a big break. I personally believe that we can make our own luck by creating opportunities for ourselves. Unless we put ourselves into situations where we can meet people and then reach out, follow up and keep in touch with them, we won't get lucky.

A friend of mine once said "just keep your eyes open and walk forward". I like to couple that with another quote, "chance favors the well prepared". Good words to live by.

Defining Time

There is a great song called Time's a Revelator. Hearing it always strikes a chord because those words are true in so many ways. Everything happens in time. It takes time for things to fall into place. Only time can heal wounds (both internal and external). It seems to be one of the only things that can bring peace, clarity and allow ideas to truly sink in. And, as fickle as time can be what will always stay constant is that no one can stop it or make it go faster. It simply is.

Time to Stop

Time flies so quickly and there seems to be no way to stop or change it. However, what does change is our perception of time. It can feel like a whole year has gone by in the blink of an eye, yet if we add up everything that happened, it seems packed! And of course we are always saying that there is never enough time. So why did it appear to fly by?

I started to think about the meditation tools I've come across such as observation. Observation of our breath, sensations and of the thoughts that pass through our minds as we sit and try to focus. I came up with the idea that the only way to combat time or master time is to observe it. If we stop and fully commit to paying attention to this moment, will it seem to exist longer?

If so, then this practice will almost allow us to harness time. At the very least, when the new year begins on January 1st, we can look back and say "I did the best I could to be aware of every moment." Perhaps at one point we will begin to notice the years seem longer, fuller and more memorable. But of course only time will tell.
