Dear wine lover,
1st June releases from Montalto, Sons of Eden and Domaine Naturaliste
The first day of winter brings a flurry of new releases. These are all available only to you as a newsletter reader
- they are not on the website. To order, just "Reply" with your requested number of bottles/cases, and we'll be in touch for payment delivery details.
All these wines are in desperately short supply. What that means is that they will be sold in the next few days. Then the Halliday et al
ratings will follow in due course (except for the 'Artus' below - Halliday has already rated it), which won't help much, other than to validate your purchase. Just saying ...
These wines are available from today and can only be purchased by "Replying" to this email.
Montalto's 2015 Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs
Maestro winemaker Simon Black has done wonders here. Previous vintages have scored 97 Points from James Halliday and a vintage like 2015 will follow suit. It was the perfect vintage for quality for this star of the Mornington Peninsula, each wine expressing the unique terroir of the sub regions they work with.
The Montalto Single Vineyard programme is an evolving process, the winemaking changing slightly from year to year as knowledge of each site develops and the seasons differ. In 2015, whole bunches were used in the Single Vineyard Pinots with the exception of the new release Red Hill Block wine.
The Main Ridge Pinot Noir is noted for its perfume, elegance and poise, whilst some might like the earthiness and graphite quality of Merricks. Teurong is a powerful site with a high percentage of whole bunch. The Red Hill is showing the classic meatiness and savoury notes that the red volcanic soils produce.
*NEW* Montalto Red Hill Block Pinot Noir 2015 $64.99 My order (bottles):
Introducing the first release of this new single vineyard pinot from Montalto's home vineyard in Red Hill. This site sits at 110 metres above sea level and features red volcanic soils.
Intense cherry and blood plum fruit are the driving force behind the Red Hill single vineyard release, together with some earth and graphite aromas and a whisper of integrated mocha oak.
Montalto Tuerong Block Pinot Noir 2015 $64.99 My order (bottles):
Montalto's Tuerong Block Pinot eclipsed the field with 97 Points/5 stars in Gourmet Traveller Wine’s Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir tasting panel - the top rated of the tasting (June/July 2017 edition).
“Love at first sniff…very rich and complex, with red cherry aromas, an overlay of spices from new oak and fragrance from careful use of stems. The palate’s supple, silky and full-flavoured, with red fruit and sappy flavours. It finishes with balanced, yet pithy tannins.” -Nick Bulleid MW.
“Rare meat, dark spices and tonka bean. Excellent length, power and attention to detail.” – Amanda Yallop, Quay Head Sommelier.

Montalto Merricks Block Pinot Noir 2015 $64.99 My order (bottles):
This single vineyard Pinot comes from a vineyard 55 metres above sea level with grey loam over clay soil.
Red berries, blue fruits, spice and some bushland fragrance on the nose. Savoury and forest undergrowth flavours add extra dimension to the primary fruit qualities and combine nicely with some smoky oak qualities. This wine always shows a sensuous tannin profile.

Gold Medal, National Cool Climate Wine Show 2016
Main Ridge Block Pinot Noir 2015 $64.99 My order (bottles):
The Main Ridge site is a cooler, more vigorous site on red volcanic soils.
Intensely fragrant, a combination red fruits including wild strawberry, raspberry, red currants and cherry combine with some dried herbal aromas of sage and bay leaf. Floral notes, spice, earth and forest floor are woven nicely through the primary fruit.

Domaine Naturaliste
Domaine Naturaliste Artus Chardonnay 2015 $44.99
My order (bottles):
Bruce Dukes does it again with another outstanding Chardonnay.
Margaret River producer Domaine Naturaliste is one of Australia's best wineries.
Now Naturaliste has released the 2015 'Artus' Chardonnay. In a lineup of $100+ Premier and Grand Cru white Burgundies, this would be right at home. As James Halliday has just said in his review:
'Bruce Dukes at his best, conjuring up the complexity of a top French white burgundy with a base of natural acidity ex relatively low alcohol. The barrel ferment has led to complex, funky nuances, and the texture of the wine builds progressively until it moves through towards the exceptionally long finish and
aftertaste.'
96 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion
Winemaker Bruce Dukes has spent close to 20 years making wine in the Margaret River region. With the 'Artus', he's made a complex, barrel fermented Chardonnay with an almost Burgundian feel. This rubs shoulders with the region's finest producers however without their hefty price tags ... and is less than half what you'd pay for a similar Burgundy Chardonnay.
Cheers
