UOW rated among Asia-Pacific region’s best universities
 

New rankings place UOW in top 50

 

UOW has been ranked 40th in the Asia-Pacific region in the latest round of University Rankings, reflecting UOW's competitive position in the region. UOW is consistently rated highly for student satisfaction and graduate outcomes and has a well-earned reputation as one of the best research intensive universities in Australia.

 

New in 2017, the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia-Pacific University Rankings was launched to reflect the region’s growing strength in the higher education sector.

 

The ranking uses the same rigorous criteria as THE World University Rankings, with special modifications to better reflect the characteristics and priorities of universities in Asia-Pacific.

VISA SCHEME FUNDS PROFESSOR ZHANG TO VISIT ISEM
 

UOW was pleased to welcome Professor Hua Zhang from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) School of Materials Science and Engineering in Singapore for a visit recently. Professor Zhang visited the ISEM research group under the Vice Chancellor’s Visiting International Scholar Awards (VISA) scheme.

Professor Zhang shared his expertise with UOW researchers to benefit research programs in energy, optoelectronic materials, biomaterials, electrochemistry and nanotechnology.

The VISA scheme supports outstanding midcareer researchers to visit UOW.

UOW welcomes international academics for biennial Japanese Studies Conference
 

Around 200 international academics and experts who specialise in Japanese studies and culture were debating Japan’s post-war democracy at the University of Wollongong earlier in June during the 20th biennial Conference of the Japanese Studies Association of Australia (JSAA).

 

The JSAA was founded in 1978, with 2017 marking the first time the Conference being held at UOW. The event is of great significance to the University, which has offered Japanese studies since 1990, from undergraduate to PhD level, from academics in cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies, history, linguistics and literary studies.

Creative Research in China
 

Professor Dai Fan from Sun Yet-Sen University in Guangzhou and UOW Professor Catherine Cole recently worked together in Guangzhou on a project funded by the Australia-China Council.


Both Fan and Catherine are professors of creative writing who are examining the ways in which China and Australia approach the development of education in the creative arts. Their research will look in particular, at the ways cultural difference affect choice of texts and teaching approaches, guest lecturers and writers in residence. Sun Yet-Sen University offers China's first fully accredited writing program.
